Transgender? Why not Transrace?

"Transgender Equality" is becoming all the rage. Don't feel like the sex you were born? Declare otherwise, and get legal imprimatur.

Surely race is no less constructed than sex. Race, unlike sex, has rather little biological validity.

I've long felt African-American. Caucasian just isn't me, despite my assigned birth race.

I demand Transrace Equality. Where are my affirmative action perks!

  1. When you’re ready to put on black-face and live your dream we’ll talk about perks, in the meantime you’ll just have to continue to suffer with your white privilege.

    1. if everyone claimed to be a different race, a minority race, then the antiquated affirmative action system would crash. sounds wonderful to me. race is basically socially constructed with no objective biological characteristics, unlike sex. if we can change one, we can certainly change the other.

In a world where BIll Clinton is the First Black President, blonde, blue-eyed Sen Elizabeth Warren is a Native American (tribal name "Lieawatha"), and George Zimmerman is a white Hispanic with a black great-grandfather, Peruvian mother, and German surname, you can be anything you want. I'm personally inclined toward Pacific Islander today. I figure if Tuvalu gets its global warming reparations it's going to be sunny weather for us Islanders.

And there's a lot of other benefits, too, if you also claim Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender. The additional protected status checks a second box on the federal form that confers the priceless benefit of Universal Mandatory Approval. For example, Gays are such delicate hothouse flowers that disagreeing with them causes them to commit suicide. Consider today's Daily Truth™:

“[Expression of a heterosexual marriage pro-family] viewpoint kills people. There’s a lot of research published in top psychology journals that have looked at university environments, both positive and negative. An event such as this [pro-family conference] would be a negative event, [and] in schools that have negative events there is a statistically significant increase in suicide...

Check the boxes! It's like manna from heaven. We're on our way to the Promised Land.

  4. Coyne is a fraud. I welcome dissent. I like talking about stuff, especially with people who disagree with me. If I'm wrong, I want to know it.

Dissent is always welcome here. It's censorship I hate.

  5. What exactly is it that makes Coyne a “fraud”? Sure you disagree, but Coyne certainly seems to be honest in his disagreement.

  6. Coyne selectively censors disagreement in his comments. To pose as a participant in debate, but to selectively mute opponents, is to be untruthful about one's own dedication to honest debate. Which is a kind of fraud.

  7. Dr. Egnor, there are those who because of traumatic early experiences or difficulty relating to the same sex during early childhood have developed a debilitating condition wherein they literally feel tortured by their biological gender. These people often need therapy, and compassion.

Does everyone who claims to be transgendered have this condition? Not likely. Still, the Church in all Her wisdom has never come down with an official statement on gender identity disorder.

    Curio
