"Obama undermines his defense of free speech by pandering to Muslim rioters. "

Jacob Sullum has a great post:

Slandering Muhammad Is Not a Crime

Excerpt:

"We don’t think that depictions of the prophets are freedom of expression," a Muslim scholar explained to The New York Times. "We think it is an offense against our rights."
This notion of rights cannot be reconciled with the classical liberal tradition of free inquiry and free expression. But instead of saying that plainly, Obama delivered a muddled message, mixing a defense of free speech with an implicit endorsement of expectations that threaten to destroy it.
That the American President-- the man elected by us to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"-- would even hesitate to defend freedom of speech boggles the mind.

We don't even begin to understand what this odious Administration of far-left bastards is doing to our country.

    Truer words were never spoken.

Whether it's constitutional interpretation, or evolutionary biology, this blog is the place to go if you want misunderstandings galore, delivered with all the arrogance of a surgeon. Fun for the whole family!

No, you don't. This blog, and the sycophantic commentators such as you are a case study of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

  2. So where are you on this one, Anonymous? Restricting freedom in order to lull violent mobs of Islamic crazies--for it or against it?

    1. The Torch,

I think that depicting Mohammed is a no-no, because it enrages batshit crazy Muslims for no benefit.

But I think it's quite OK to write books or blogs noting that Mohammed was a pedophile. Assuming that he existed that is, which I doubt.

The Qur'an actually makes no reference to Mohammed. His biographies were written centuries after he was supposed to have lived, and are almost certainly fictional. The Qur'an is not an easily interpreted text, and a large collection of hadiths are necessary to explain what the various verses mean. The hadiths are supposed to refer to explanations given by Mohammed, but also they were fabricated.

I think that free speech certainly covers writing and talking about Mohammed. Because that's exactly what Muslims do themselves.

    2. @KW:

So if I repeatedly threaten to kill you you will stop expressing your disagreement with me?

    3. "Nobody is talking about restricting freedom; it’s about getting asshole bigot provocateurs to refrain from provoking riots and terrorism with their stupid and unnecessary insults."

You accomplish this by taking away their freedom.

You qualify as an asshole bigot provocateur in my book, KW. Are your rights next?

"If a child repeatedly provokes another child to violence we naturally hold both children responsible."

The most violent people make the rules about what the rest of us can say. I also don't agree with your definition of inciting violence. Inciting violence is when I stand before an angry crowd with a bullhorn and say, "Let's all go down to the mayor's house and kick his ass!" It's not when I say something that someone else doesn't like and that person decides to remedy the situation with assault or ever murder. In that situation, we punish the assaulter or murderer.

      "Grow up."

      I'm grown up just fine.

Muslim have demonstrated that they will riot and kill people when "provoked' by the following stimuli: actual desecration of the Quran, imagined desecration of the Quran, cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad, teddy bears named Mohammad, missionaries, and South Park episodes. Seems to me that if Christians started killing people over Piss Christ, we'd have to ban that too.

  3. I feel the urge coming on to kick the crap out of KW. Somebody call the police and arrest him for inciting me.

    1. Hey maybe that's the approach to use to fight Darwinism:

"Darwinists claim Mohammed evolved from a monkey; Muslims set biology departments ablaze!"

      That'll shut 'em up.
