Pope Francis in Brazil

The Holy Father has arrived in Brazil for a week-long pilgrimage and celebration of World Youth Day.  It's beautiful to see the huge crowds and so many people hungry for Christ. The Pope will visit a little chapel in a Brazilian slum and will preside over Mass at Copacabana beach with a million people.

May God bless and protect him and make his visit fruitful in the Holy Spirit.

Diario Libre claims three million were on hand to greet Pope Francis. Our parish sent about a dozen kids for World Youth Day. They must be ecstatic.

I will say this, though - if he keeps walking out in crowds without being shot by some left-wing, God-hating Proglodyte, he'll have his first miracle in the bag. The Swiss Guards must be going crazy with this holy man.

    I pray for his protection.

    1. I'm worried about his safety too. I pray for him. It's in God's hands.

    2. I admire his courage and faith. I am extremely impressed with his outreach. But, I must say I would be going INSANE if I was on his security detail.

  2. If the Pope not getting shot is a miracle, and his fate is in God’s hands, then what of free will? If God answers prayers and directs events, then free will is little more than an excuse for a god that only cares when it suits him.

    1. God has libertarian free will, as do human beings. We are created in His image.

Free agents, divine and mortal, interact, and one can ask one free agent to help mitigate the behavior of another.

      No contradiction there.

After all, if determinism is true and free will is false, then there is only one determined course of future events, so why bother with security? What will happen is determined. You can't change it.

Popeye, you poor wretch, you're just mouthing words you don't understand. Not everyone who believes that God is involved in history is an Occasionalist.

Speaking of libertarians and faith, here's a GREAT story:

Louisiana’s funeral directors are heading to the U.S. Supreme Court in their fight with the monks of St. Joseph’s Abbey over who can sell caskets in this state, filing an appeal Wednesday that seeks to overturn the monks’ March appellate victory.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval’s 2011 ruling striking down a state law that made it a crime for anyone other than a licensed funeral director to sell a casket in Louisiana.

The Abbey produces handcrafted cypress caskets for a fraction of the cost that funeral directors charge.
