The "everyone's an atheist" claim is just another predictable but tiresome case of dipping in the Dumpty Dictionary for a debate point:
When I use a word,it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less. --- H. Dumpty
If it makes atheists feel better to draw a bigger circle and have more company, so be it. It's cold comfort if you believe that individual human existence is an ever-sinking lifeboat tossed about in an infinite sea.
While some/many/most on the Left claim to be atheists, they have a god that they worship--the State Almighty (from whom all blessings flow). Devotion to a centralized, redistributionist, regulatory State is their redemptive Uptopian ideology.
No, obviously I meant that huckster WLC. Except lining his own pockets at the expense of the gullible and demented, and making the insecure believers feel a little better about their superstitions, what do know now that we wouldn't have known without his 'scholarship'?
at the 1:03 mark: "That's semantics"at the 1:03 mark: "That's semantics."
Don't you just love this sort of stupid comment?
'Semantics' has to do with the meaning ascribed to 'signifiers', such as words, phrases, symbols, etc.
From the context, it seems clear the fellow who said "That's semantics" is trying (dishonestly) to redefine the term 'atheist' -- that is, he's explicitly trying to muddy the meaning of the term. WLC insistes upon clarifying the meaning and the correct definition of the term, and the fellow has the gall to accuse WLC playing word games ... when it is he who was playing word games.
This is an example of why human communication and understanding is impossible. Each side will take the definitions that server them and spend the rest of the time talking past the other party.
When I hear or read what the new atheists have to say I tend to believe the following statement:
ReplyDelete"The sum total of intelligence on planet earth is constant, only the population grows!"
:-)

ReplyDeleteHowever, their Messiah, is a BIG disappointment: "Liberals Were Mistaken About Barack Obama, He’s Not One of Them."
I suspect that some/much/most of the rants from KW and Hoo are expressions of their agonizing levels of acute disappointment.

Apart from the gullible and the demented, does anyone take that huckster still seriously?
ReplyDeleteDo you mean Hoo?
DeleteYou mean Dawkins the "gigantic lumbering robot"? No. Probably not.
DeleteBut that doesn't deter him from hawking his books on TV at every opportunity.
Dawkins' autobiography:

We all know what you mean, troy. *Everything* about Dawkins, and especially that sissy accent he uses, is hucksterish and quite annoying.
