Jerry Coyne complains about proclivity to violence in Paducah Kentucky:
Coyne:
". . and our God-given right to blow away anybody we dislike. This picture was taken in Kentucky, near Paducah and the Confederate flag I photographed on my recent visit. These signs are in the window of—get this—a flower shop on the town square of Benton, Kentucky, which is, I’m informed, is “infamous around here for the KKK [Ku Klux Klan] openly soliciting donations on the town square not all that long ago.”
I suppose that after you shoot someone, this place provides flowers for the funeral.
The photographer is reader Manolo, who lives in the area and has his own atheist website in Spanish."
Reality check. Jerry Coyne is a liberal Democrat resident of the liberal Democrat city of Chicago. Chicago has a murder rate that is more than twice as high as the murder rate of Paducah Kentucky and it's fair to say that there aren't a lot of Confederate flags in the Windy City.
Coyne:

What Coyne's silly post serves to show is that liberals are hypocrites regarding violent crime. By far the most violent segment of the American population is liberal Democrats. Crime rates in municipalities governed by the liberal Democrats are multiples higher then crime rates in municipalities governed by conservative Republicans.
Regarding our "God-given right to blow away anybody we dislike...", I point out that Coyne's reader Manolo, like Coyne himself, has an atheist website. Atheism is a much deadlier ideology than anything Godfull folks have perpetrated-- atheists make Al Qaeda look like Quakers.
I don't know what his problem is with blowing people away. Surely he isn't suggesting that we have free will or something? We're just animated meat, controlled by chemical reactions in our brains.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course the God-given right is to bear arms not blow each other away. Liberals are not good at nuance.
The Torch
People don't own guns because they choose to. People are just survival machines, blindly programmed. Nothing but gigantic lumbering robots driven by the Prime Directive: survive and f**k. When we have served our purpose we are cast aside, detritus in the march of geological time.
ReplyDelete--- "De Debbil Made Me Do It" Principle (Book of Dawkins)
If Dawkins is right, why bother spending money to "manage fertility" [wink, wink] in Africa (as Al Gore suggested at Davos)? Just let things in Chicago and Benton run their course. Same effect, just different people. Think globally, act locally, or so they say. Surely Coyne can see the sense in that.
Moreover, there is no record I can find of the Klan "openly soliciting" in Benton. That sort of thing usually makes the news somewhere. Of course, Coyne does note that it's just hearsay from an "informer" (they're everywhere, aren't they?). But the Left is famous for inventing and publicizing fraudulent stories (cf. Sparkman "murder", Charlie Rogers' "homophobic attack", Duke lacrosse, etc, etc.). You'd think an intellectual would be more skeptical of wild stories like that. You'd be right.
An ideology is a comprehensive vision, a way of looking at things (compare worldview)...
ReplyDelete--- Wiki: Ideology
[Worldview] refers to the framework of ideas and beliefs forming a global description through which an individual, group or culture watches and interprets the world and interacts with it...

The NRA has gone viral:
Today every citizen of Ukraine understands why our country has hundreds of thousands of policemen. Last illusions were crushed when riot police used rubber batons and boots at the Independence Square on peaceful citizens.
Isn't it an official requirement, to be an 'atheist' in good standing, to be intellectually dishonest?
ReplyDeleteIlion,
DeleteNo, there's no requirement besides not accepting the existence of gods to be an atheist, but there's a requirement to be a good Christian to persistently make unsupported assertions. Christians have had a lot of practice at it.
See how quick you were off the mark to be intellectually dishonest, bilgeful?
DeleteThank you for your service.
Senile old fart,
DeleteWhy don't you improve your reading skills. I merely stated that Christians have a lot of practice at making unsupported assertions. That's what's 'faith' is.
You're just as quick as making unsupported assertions as Ilion is.
Atheism is both an ideology and a worldview, blankfield. And you, my leetle boolshevik, are one of the most ideological guys around. Blinded by ideology, in fact, you and your invisible gorillas and pop-sci books.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I do rely on external sources for the definitions of English words, not Leftist trolls writing new entries in the Humpty Dumpty Dictionary.
Well prohibitions against murder come from God and man and are successful relative to numbers.
ReplyDeletemurder rates is a reflection of character and morality and so the lower classes do have more murder. this means in segregated nations like america and Canada that certain identities are more in the lower classes and so have more murder. The jails are black and brown and not white or yellow.
These identities are in the historic political party, Democrat, that is the opposition to the dominant historic identity in the country. Yankee Protestant. tHese days Southerners and the early european Catholics etc also are in the republican party.
therefore chicago has the lower caste identities voting democratic and murdering more. still very few people however.
Thats the equation every interested Canadian understands. Like me.
identity is the dominant thing in all things in humanitity. no one otherwise does a natural thing in their mind.
Kentuck is not a gun toting ghetto. Just regular Americans loving rightly the manly right to own weapons. Its free men and good men who can be so trusted.
by the way criticisms from a foreign (Spanish) internet atheist have no moral credibility about questioning americans as long as its in a non American language by a American citizen.
Only English should be tolerated if someone wants to attack Americans.
Why not go back to his own country and make that a better world. ?!
Thats the problem in America and not muskets for patriots.
Senile old fart,
ReplyDeleteAnother unsupported assertion. A worldview is an explanation of how we got to where we are now. An ideology is an assertion as to how we should proceed.
A worldview is in the past and the present. An ideology is in the future, particularly utopian ideologies, such as Communism and Christianity.
Atheism isn't an ideology, because it doesn't proscribe what should happen in the future. For that you need to add an ideology, of whatever sort.
Some ideologies are also worldviews. Christianity and Communism are both worldviews (God created the Universe and humans versus history is a class struggle) and ideologies, both with different future Utopias.
And I'm not a bolshevik. I own too many bank shares to be one. I much prefer to read books than watch your favourite YouTube videos.
