MSNBC: George Wallace was a Republican.

One is tempted to attribute this idiocy to an intentional lie on the part of the loon left at BSNBC, but I suspect abject stupidity is at work here. I have liberal friends who have been shocked-- shocked-- to hear that the KKK was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party (a position currently occupied by the IRS). They didn't have a clue that the race-baiting bigots who brought us segregation and lynchings hated Republicans (and Catholics) almost as much as they hated blacks.

Wallace, like virtually all segregationists, was a lifelong Democrat (for you liberal readers who are still in a state of denial), and he embodied the opportunistic race-baiting venom that has always been the hallmark of the Democrat Party.

Segregation was the ultimate progressive Democrat project-- the perfect amalgam of race-mongering and government control of the most intimate aspects of people's lives. Wallace was a big-government Democrat, who used racial fear and hate to advance himself.

Wallace was, you might say, the political mentor of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Democrat race-baiters who were also Democrat presidential candidates.

  2. Shall I remind you of Nixon's Southern strategy? Most of those Southern Democrats have become Southern Republicans.

    1. @Hoo:

Nixon's "southern strategy" was linked much more to social and foreign policy issues than it was to race. You forget that Nixon was the first president to require affirmative action in the federal government. Some racist, huh?

Unless you think that affirmative action is racist.

Virtually all segregationist politicians stayed Democrats, and racists didn't come over the the Republican party in significant numbers (why would racists embrace the party that passed all of the 1960's civil rights legislation, over Democrat opposition). Barry Goldwater, the Republican presidential candidate in 1964, was member of the Arizona NAACP.

What changed in the South is that the South became less racist over the last decades of the 20th century. As it became less racist, it became more Republican and less Democrat.

If you'd like to play racist quote game, I can match you 1000 racist Democrat quotes for every racist Republican quote.

Here's LBJ, right after passing his Great Society Program:

“I’ll have those niggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

      You own racism, asshat.

    2. Thanks, Mike, you can have it.

The South is the most racist part of the country. Need I remind you how the South votes?

    3. Based on... some guy's compilation of the volume of racist... tweets? Pretty funny.

That's about as rigorous as climate science.

You have no argument. Your party is home base to racism for the past two centuries. But "racism" doesn't really capture what you Democrats do, although many of you are and were spitting racists.

Race-baiting is what you do. You use racial fear and hate to advance your politics. Republicans have always been the party of color-blindness. No racial favors for anyone.

"Content of character, not color of skin". I'm sure you've heard that somewhere before.

Without race hatred and fear, Democrats would never win another national election.

    4. That's just one measure. Here is "another guy" who relied on Google search statistics to quantify the level of racism by location:

"Quantifying the effects of racial prejudice on voting is notoriously problematic. Few people admit bias in surveys. So I used a new tool, Google Insights, which tells researchers how often words are searched in different parts of the United States.

"Can we really quantify racial prejudice in different parts of the country based solely on how often certain words are used on Google? Not perfectly, but remarkably well. Google, aggregating information from billions of searches, has an uncanny ability to reveal meaningful social patterns. “God” is Googled more often in the Bible Belt, “Lakers” in Los Angeles."

There is no denying that the South is the least racially tolerant region of the country. Anyone who has been to the South has observed that. The data unequivocally supports that. You can deny it all you want. Denial is a defensive reaction.

I presume you're not black. Take a walk this summer in the West Lake Street neighborhood in Chicago after dark. You'll learn a lot about racism in the North.

You probably won't be available to discuss it afterword.

  3. Apparently Egnor doesn’t get to the comments sections of some of the more popular conservative sites where blatant racism is on display virtually every day. You can’t put a story about Michael Obama on the Blaze without the comments immediately going racist. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, like that on the left. Your racist apologetics defies the common experience of every American. You’re frequent trips in the way-back machine aren’t fooling anyone.

And the KKK, regardless of political affiliation, was always, and remains, a Christian organization. Burning crosses anyone?

I just looked up an Obama story on the Blaze. Read the comments. Not a single one was racist.

Cite your references. Give specific examples with links.

[There is nothing, absolutely nothing, like that on the left.]

Is Al Sharpton a racist? Is Jesse Jackson a racist? Is Louis Farrakhan a racist or an anti-semite? Is Jeremiah Wright a racist? It is racist for NBC news to edit a Zimmerman 911 tape to make his motives appear racist, in order to stir up racial hate? Is it racist to elect former KKK thugs to the Senate for decades (Robert Bryd)? Is it racist to site abortion clinics overwhelmingly in minority neighborhoods, and agree on the telephone to take donations for racial reasons (Planned Parenthood). Were the Black Panthers racists? Are the New Black Panthers racists? Are random gang attacks on innocent whites by blacks, which have been occurring with some regularity in Chicago and elsewhere lately, racist? Is it racist fro journalists to not report on these attacks? Is it racist to vote for a man for president because of his race? Is it racist for 99% percent of people of one race to vote for a man of the same race, whereas the split was 50/50 among voters of another race? Is mandating different standards for admission/employment based on race racist?

Mathoo: "The South is the most racist part of the country. Need I remind you how the South votes?"

That's Wayback Machine, "Southern Strategy" 40 year old political analysis, Popeye. And Egnor is demonstrably correct in the post. Mathoo is just twisting and squirming.

    4. Did you notice I said “Michelle Obama”? The right seems to have a particularly intense loathing for this woman and it’s usually not long before words like “ghetto” and “ape” make an appearance. Search the Blaze for “Michelle Obama”, scroll to the first story specifically about her, and tell me it’s not racist.

      http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/06/05/heres-the-leaked-audio-of-michelle-obamas-heated-confrontation-with-lgbt-protester/

I found the following comments in about 20 seconds:

“President Pookie is gonna get an ear full tonight. You do not make aunt Ester cover for this lying fool.”

“All I heard from the Wookie was “Gggggrrrrrr rrrraaaahhh rrrrrrggghhhhnn.”

“Sounds like that fundraiser was at Denny’s in the hood.
with a big brawl fixing to break out. CLASSLESS”

“Is there one among us who would have believed 6 years ago that there would actually be communist Muslim ghetto trash living in our white house.”

“I tried listening to the audio, but can only handle about 10 seconds of an angry black woman shouting.”

      “That thing makes me sick.”

“The current renters in the white house are living in a shelter provided by other people’s money”

“the vile hatred she feels and expresses toward whitey”

      “You fat sasquatch”

Not particularly racist. A couple of comments on the borderline, but well within internet troll standards. Have you read the stuff they said about Bush? The stuff they said about Sarah Palin? About Trig Palin?

Is it fair to conclude that liberals hate Texans or Alaskans or women or handicapped children because of the feisty comments on Bush/Palin/Trig?

      I googled "Bush ape" -- 8,700,000 results

      "Michele Obama ape" 448,000 results.

      "Obama ape" 6,680,000 (includes Michelle)

"Trig retard" 339,000 results (Trig is Palin's 5 year old son with Down's syndrome"

      "Palin bitch" 3,050,000 results

      "Palin slut" 2,080,000 results

"Willow Palin slut" 2,860,000 results (Willow is Palin's teen daughter)

"Piper Palin slut" 14,100,000 results (Piper is Palin's pre-teen daughter)

So "Piper Palin slut" got 28 times the results as "Michelle Obama ape".

So for every righty who posts that Michelle Obama is an ape, there are 28 lefties who post that Sarah Palin's preteen daughter is a slut.

Just for fun, I googled "liberal asshole"-- 9,780,000 results.

      Seems low to me.

Mathoo, it's been quite a few years since Nixon ran for President and many things have transpired since then.

In those years, there has been a net migration Measured in millions of persons) from northern states to southern states. And, in fact, there has been a net migration of black Americans from north to south. The Brookings Institute noted that "blacks were more likely than whites to select destinations in the South".

It is not very flattering to black Americans to assume that they would voluntarily move from a region of acceptance to a region of great racism and prejudice, Mathoo. Yet you do so. I'm not sure how you "integrate" that into a Progressive view of race (and I'm sure the explanation is amusing), but I recall you do your integrals before breakfast. More sleep would help, perhaps? Less drinking?

Mathoo's link refers one to a... website that [ahem] "end[ed] up with a total of 395 of some of the nastiest tweets you might possibly imagine." THREE HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE!!!! Think about that! Wowzers! That is BIG DATA.

I don't know how many tweets are tweeted in a day, mathoo, but you are a twit, a joke, and so is your little website floatingsheep (a most serious bunch of high-powered academics, I'm sure) and it's "data" source, jezebel.com. Your sources betray your towering intellect.

Now, this major big data project only looked at tweets that contained - and I quote from the source - "the text 'monkey' or 'nigger' AND also contain the text 'Obama' OR 'reelected' OR 'won'." Now that is rigor in the extreme (they know how to use the AND operator). No one apparently checked whether the tweets originated from hip-hop or rap musicians, or looked at any other racial slurs. I. Wonder. Why.

You know, Mathoo, you really should stick to cheap, common insults and puerile, tangential commentary. At least you can do that without doing the perception of your intellectual ability too much more collateral damage.

As it happens, on June 6 2012, c/net reported that Twitter hit 400,000,000 tweets/day. So to be conservative in the EXTREME, let's say the floatingsheep folks had a total dataset of 1,000,000 tweets. That's an overall probability 0.000395 that a racist tweet was issued.

In technical talk (Mathoo loves technical talk), that is called Scintilla (after the great Guido Scintilla, first man to describe the dangers of untethered dust motes).

Your "Google search" approach to racism is pretty funny.

    Here are a few questions"

What constitutes "racism"? Thoughts or words or actions? What does a person have to do, in your view, to be labelled a racist?

  6. My approach relies on hard data. Yours on anecdotes and hypothetical situations. I'll stick with data.

How about my questions? You've accused people of being racists. Define your terms.

    1. Of course it's hard data. It shows what kind of terms people use when they search the internet. If someone uses the word "nigger" as a search term, that's a good indication of a racial bias.

    2. Negative correlation between racially biased word searches and Obama's election performance in the area suggests that yes, indeed, that would be the case.

And while you're at it, Mathoo, explain your theory that accounts for black Americans voluntarily choosing to move to racist states in huge numbers. And even more likely than whites to do so!

I'm really anxious to understand that. It doesn't quite fit with most assumptions about rational behavior in economics and cognitive psychology. We could be looking at a Kuhnian paradigm shift. That would be a very big deal.

Why I'll be able to brag that "Hey, I knew Mathoo when he was just a sleazy troll. He seemed so quiet. And kept to himself. Just a regular sleazy troll, a voice, devoted to 'gumming up the works'. [phrase courtesy B. Obama] And then... all of a sudden... big bang! No poo-poo sticks that that guy."
