The face of the Left

Ann Althouse:

I could tell she was a lefty from the way she wrote the ampersand.

Here's a woman at a pro-Zimmerman rally, giving the pro-Zimms bad PR...
Was anyone fooled by that? I hope not, but Renee Vaughan — an Austin activist —is getting reamed for her evil prank. Instapundit says:

Her name is Renee Vaughan. Her employer, the Texas Campaign For The Environment, has also apologized. Nonetheless, I hope the picture of her standing with a sign reading "We’re Racist And Proud" winds up being tagged to both....It's a harsh consequence to become — for all time, on the web — Renee "Racist and Proud" Vaughan. She's apologized — sorry she got busted. You know how apologies are. But I doubt that she'd be sorry if her trick had worked and amplified the legend of the racism of Zimmerman and his defenders.
It's entirely fitting that her name should be forever linked to the motto "Racist and Proud," because that isn't a lie. It's true. It is racist to press the racism template onto the Zimmerman story, and it is done with full intent to stimulate feelings of race-based anxiety in vulnerable minds. That is heartless and evil.

This woman is a far-Left loon who pretended to be a Zimmerman supporter at a rally. She made the sign to make people think that the pro-Zimmerman folks at the rally were racists.

She was widely identified by the press as "a George Zimmerman supporter".

This is the Left. Remember this when some leftie asshole complains about "racist" anonymous commentors, racist demonstrators, racist catcalls, etc. It is certainly possible that much of the "racism" they bleat about is fabricated by them. These people lie like they breathe. They have no qualms about lying about people who don't share their vile opinions, and no qualms about stirring up racial hatred to gain dishonest polemical ground.

Have no illusions about these people. They are utterly amoral. They are also rather clever. It's amazing what clever stratagems you can concoct whey you're unencumbered by integrity.

  1. BTW, Jack Cashill makes an astonishing yet compelling case that "that if anyone committed a hate crime it was Trayvon Martin. Evidence strongly suggests that he attacked Zimmerman because he believed him to be gay" in his latest column "Did Trayvon 'Gay Bash' Zimmerman?"

    1. George Zimmerman is so (unjustly) despised that the family he helped after a car accident canceled their news conference. The family doesn't want to be associated with Zimmerman.

Not grumpy at all. Amused, actually. I'd guess most people find it amusing when folks parading around in "I'm elite!" sandwich boards turn out to be clowns.

Popeye often complains that when he visits his favorite website, such as

    [insert lunatic left-wing screedsite here].com

one finds the comment threads full of racist and hateful comments submitted by conservatives.

Ms Vaughn puts that complaint in a new light, eh? Of course, when they are outed as vicious, hateful, left-wing frauds, they hide behind the "I'm being sarcastic, dammit!!!" defense.

    1. Bernie Madoff should have used Hoo's tactic in his criminal defense:

"I'm not a fraud! I didn't lie! I was just satirizing the investment industry!"

When a leftie lies, it isn't a lie anymore. It's just satire.

If we accept all leftie viewpoints as satire, that might make sense.

I am making a mistake by answering your sophistry. But here goes:

"You claim to use satire every once in a while. Don't like the taste of your own medicine?"

I identify it as satire (Dissociated Press). I am concerned that people may take it to be real, and I would be very upset if they did. My intent is not to mislead, but to highlight idiotic viewpoints by exaggeration.

Vaughan's lie was not satire. It was deception, plainly intended to provide the compliant press with a photo that depicted Zimmerman supporters as racists.

The fabrication of racist incidents is a specialty of the left-- they have done it so often it is becoming boring.

Interestingly, the hard left is very bad at satire. It's partially because they're morons, and have little real insight into the issues, and even more because they're humorless.

      Satire depends critically on humor.

    7. Vaughan's sign was clearly political satire. So says National Review/:

"In fairness to Vaughan, there is no evidence that she was a “left-wing plant,” as alleged by the Gateway Pundit (which, adding to the confusion, also misattributes a quotation from the Daily News story as being from the Chronicle). In fact Vaughan made quite the opposite clear, telling Breitbart’s Darby, “This sign means that there are people here who are racist and apparently think that’s OK. I’m not one of them. I’m being sarcastic.” The blame for the distortion rests squarely on reporters and commentators who jumped at what they took to be a picture-perfect demonstration of the hateful backwardness of their ideological opponents."

It's funny to see y'all hot and bothered.

Oh! Well geez, National Review says so! I guess that settles it! Everybody else must fall in lockstep!

I had no idea you considered National Review to be so authoritative. Is there a closet you haven't come out of?

    9. This doesn't make National Review authoritative, just a bit more cool-headed than the rest of the right blogosphere.

You are great for my blood pressure, Dr Elite. As they say, "laughter is the best medicine".

How about some more moral preening? I love that stuff when you do it, especially when you're wearing your professor costume. It's a great act.

    11. @Hoo:

The proof of satire would be that Vaughan made a serious effort to discredit press reports that reported that she was a Zimmerman supporter.

Can you point to the evidence that she did so, BEFORE she was identified as a liar?

      Delete
    12. Of course I can. And you could if you had two brain cells to rub together.

Breitbart's Brandon Darby interviewed Vaughan right there, at the rally. An excerpt from that interview:

Breitbart News: What does your sign mean?
Woman: This sign means that there are people here who are racist and apparently think that's OK. I'm not one of them. I'm being sarcastic.
      Breitbart News: OK.
Fellow anti-Zimmerman Protestor: Yo. What she said.

What a bunch of helpless crybabies you are.

    13. My intent is not to mislead, but to highlight idiotic viewpoints by exaggeration.

You do succeed at highlighting idiotic viewpoints: your own.

  5. Darby concludes:

"Gateway Pundit concludes she was a "leftist plant" who intended to trick or otherwise deceive the media. As the interview reveals, however, she was quite honest and open about her intentions and what her sign meant. She also located herself quite clearly on the Trayvon Martin/New Black Panther Party-supporting side of the demonstration (this video shows the two sides were clearly separated and distinguished from each other). "

I'd love to see admiral poo-poo Darby now, just as he did NR. That would be even more entertaining.

I agree with gateway pundit, whoever that is. When she gets challenged on video, she 'fesses up. She knows the meaning of "viral".

      Here's Ms Vaughn, pre-'fess, pre-video.

At one point, Renee Vaughan of Austin mocked [Trayvon Martin] protesters by chanting, "We're racist. We're proud. We're better 'cause we're white."
      --- Houston Chronicle

You think the Martin supporters marching by knew she was "being sarcastic"?

But I do know about you, with your "hard data" from jezebel.com and your imbecilic notion that somehow everyone would have known this left-wing fraud was a left-wing fraud before she was outed by some guy with a video device from Breitbart.

      Silly gullitard.

    4. It's OK, admiral. I enjoy that you can't even get yourself to agree with a Breitbart fellow. He clearly says that Vaughan was not pretending to be on the pro-Zimmeman side. You understand that, too, but can't publicly acknowledge it.

Or maybe you still don't, although I can't believe that you are that stupid.

Clearly, the left's desire to further the George Zimmerman racism narrative trumps the principles of accuracy and journalistic integrity.
--- "Breitbart fellow" (aka Brandon Darby)

Is he the guy you're agreeing with?

If so, then I agree with you!

    6. I don't agree with Darby on everything, but we seem to agree about Vaughan. People of different political views but not entirely unhinged from reality* seem to understand what happened. Pig-headed fools like you and Egnor can deny the obvious to everyone's amusement.

So, knowing the hyena tendency of the left-wing press, this left-wing tool - just by chance, mind you! - came up with the idea to carry a virulently racist sign into a situation that was going to be racially charged and loaded with press. I'm sure she never imagined - no, never! - that photo after photo of that sign would be taken, along with eyewitness accounts of her screaming racist remarks at the Martin supporters, and these filthy lies would be plastered all over the left-wing nitwittosphere with requisite caterwauling about the evil right and their gun-lovin, black-folks-hatin attitudes.

After all, it worked with the Tea Party rallies.

But this time, it was different. One of the heirs of the redoubtable and much-mourned Andrew Breitbart outed the bitch, and now it's all about an attempt at "sarcasm". Nothing to see. Just move on.

      Yeah, right.

Even a moron like you can see the holes in that logic, but you'd eat glass before you'd admit it.

Three mistakes in so short a comment.

First, my preferred new source is The Wall St Journal. I admire Andrew Breitbart and the good work he did in exposing the lies of people like you.

And I fully understand where Ms Vaughn was standing. Why, in press accounts it would be reported that the Martin supporters were admirably restrained and did not harass Ms Vaughn despite her screaming virulent racist comments and carrying a sign that was nothing but hate speech. Such angels on the Martin side! Such vicious racists on the Zimmerman team, charging over and testing the virtue of the New Black Panthers.. Tsk, tsk.

And I found my ass. He calls himself Hoo the Elite.

Yesterday evening, The Austin American-Statesman reported that Renee Vaughn has apologized for "foment[ing] hate", and that she is "in trouble" with her bosses at the Texas Campaign for the Environment, who also apologized:

I am very sorry that this incident occurred. She is an employee, but was not in any way, acting on behalf of Texas Campaign for the Environment on Saturday. Our organization has nothing to do with that controversy.

She now realizes that her actions exhibited extremely poor judgment.

Please accept my apologies for this offense to good taste.

      Fucking gullitard.
