Jodie Foster comes out as gay at Golden Globes
"(Reuters) - Hollywood actress Jodie Foster confirmed long-running speculation that she is gay by coming out at the Golden Globes awards on Sunday, but joked she wouldn't be holding a news conference to discuss her private life.
The notoriously private Foster stunned the audience of stars and Hollywood powerbrokers..."
"Notoriously private...", except when she gets on an actual podium and announces her sexual practices to the world.
:-/
Besides, I already knew she was gay.
Besides, I already knew she was gay.
ReplyDeleteShe rejected your offer of a coffee in your hotel room?
Here's the link to the Reuters story: Jodie Foster comes out as gay at Golden Globes.
ReplyDelete"Just a few moments later the message had flashed around the world: Foster had finally confirmed she was gay. The 45-year-old performer, who has been in the news pretty regularly since she first stepped in front of the camera more than four decades ago, appeared at last to have given in to pressure to 'come out'." (The Guardian, 2007)
ReplyDeleteWe can probably look forward to another public moment in 2017 when the "notoriously private" Foster "outs herself" again in an effort to garner attention.
She has shown up for all sorts of ceremonies with women dates. She has been 'out' for years. At least since she made the Sagan movie 'Contact'.
ReplyDeleteJust a publicity stunt.
Jody Foster is a phenomenal actress who gave an amazing speech; even if it wasn’t perfectly clear what the hell she was talking about at times.
ReplyDeleteIf she was a strait actress we wouldn’t be seeing this flood of dismissive comments coming from only one end of the political spectrum. Diminishing Gay people is just the way conservatives roll. At least nobody is dragging her behind a pickup truck.
-KW
She was good in Silence of the Lambs but she hasn't given a noteworthy performance in two decades.
DeleteWho's diminishing her, KW?
She's been heaped with praise for her bravery but I don't think she's brave. If she wants to impress me she should come out as a born again Christian. Now that would be brave.
Joey
Neither Egnor nor Glenbeckistan diminished her and the commenters on the Blaze are likely trolls from your side. They do it all the time. They're the ones who talk the way they think conservatives talk.
DeleteKW diminishes people on this site every day. KW should learn to worry about himself and less about trolling Glen Beck commenters.
Joey
I'm sorry, I don't see the diminution on the part of Dr. Egnor or this Admiral fellow. (I'm guessing that's George Boggs?)
DeleteDr. Egnor's point is that, if bedroom behavior is all such a private matter, she should learn how to keep it private. Announcing your sexual habits at the Golden Globes is not private, it's broadcasting it to the entire world. Literally. Homosexuals can't help from doing that. While they like to pretend that it's "none of anyone's business," the truth is that if they would just keep it to themselves that would be true. Keep it none of my business!
Admiral's point is that Jodie Foster already "came out" five years ago. Is she going to keep doing this every five years? Why, so she can be get more pats on the back for her heroism or something? To bolster her career? How many times can a person "come out" anyways? Is it really coming out when you did it five years ago?
Ben
I've long suspected that KW is an angry homosexual. The only people I've ever met in my life who are as tempermental, pushy, and anti-Christian have all been homosexuals.
DeleteTRISH
It's none of your business what they do in their bedroom, Ben. That's why they have parades and even force unwilling participants to march in them.
DeleteJoey
They also like to make people unwilling participants in their weddings.
DeleteBen
I agree with the sentiment that there is nothing particularly courageous in Jody Foster's act of coming out. Hollywood has accepted gays for a long time.
ReplyDeleteIt takes much more courage to come out as gay when you are a Republican elected representative.
Republican lawmaker becomes just the second openly gay Republican currently in state office
Republican lawmaker becomes just the second gay Republican currently in office.
And this guy played it safe and waited until after he had been elected to come put. It remains to be seen whether he will state in office for more than one term.
Hoo
They don' accept gays, Hoo. They promote homosexuality.
DeleteBut I'm glad we can agree that Jody Foster is not brave for making an announcement that won her a round of applause and lots of back-slapping, which is really just a repeat of the same announcement she made in 2007.
Like I said, if she had announced that she was becoming a born again Christian, that would have been absolutely courageous. Instead she just announced that she likes performing cunnilingus. And everyone oohed and ahhed over it.
Joey
Glad we agree on Ms. Foster, Mr. Joey!
DeleteDo you also agree with me that Mr. Fleck's coming out looked more like a heroic event?
Hoo
I'm sure it was a little harder. And yet he was till feted in the media.
DeleteJoey
I would agree Mr Fleck is far more courageous.
DeleteThe backlash from both sides would be a real issue.
Many conservatives would not want an openly gay person representing them, and many gay people would dislike him for joining the GOP in the first place.
Doubly damned.
Ms. Foster is just looking for some much needed publicity.
We wouldn't be having this culture war right now if people could just keep their sex lives in their bedrooms. People used to do that, back in those good old days that I keep hearing never actually existed.
ReplyDeleteJQ
We wouldn't be having this culture war right now if people could just keep their sex lives in their bedrooms.
DeleteYeah, damn you for announcing that you like to have sex with women by wanting to be married to one. If only you wouldn't put your sex life out there like that and would keep it in the bedroom instead.
@ KW: I'm not old enough to remember those days. Wow that must have been great. I bet they didn't even blacklist pastors from presidential inaugurations for preaching what all pastors should.
DeleteBen
That should be @JQ, not KW.

There are no straight pride parades. Celebrities don't have coming out spectacles when they sleep with members of the opposite sex. The public schools don't drill home "straight is good."
ReplyDeleteGays spend their whole lives telling everyone about something that is supposedly none of their business. Just ask Jodie Foster. One coming-out wasn't good enough for her.
JQ
Celebrities don't have coming out spectacles when they sleep with members of the opposite sex.
DeleteYes they do. They are called "weddings". "Straight" sex is trumpeted in society and the media all the time.
"Besides, I already knew she was ["]gay["]."
ReplyDeleteDidn't everyone ... except John Hinckley?
Hinkley could title his autobiography:
Delete"I Shot the President and She was Gay Anyway"
