The Bosses' best rendition of the best pop song ever.
You can hide 'neath your covers
and study your pain.
Make crosses from your lovers
throw roses in the rain.
Waste your summer prayin in vain
for a savior to rise from these streets.
Well I'm no hero
that's understood.
All the redemption I can offer girl
is beneath this dirty hood
Poetry of a high order.
Springsteen's songs are loaded with Catholic imagery, as befits a Catholic boy from Freehold.

Big Springsteen fan in HS ('76). Think this is his best song. Sad that he is such a disappointment to me now. I became a Catholic in '98 after my life went down the toilet from sex, drugs, rocknroll, etc. Used to listen to BS over and over. Now I ponder GKC, and Hillaire Belloc, who said the the Catholic Church is the natural home of the human soul. "In the lonely cool before dawn, you hear their engines roaring on, but when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind. So Mary, climb in! It's a town full of losers, I'm pulling out of here to win...."

DeleteLike you, I came late the the Church. I love Springsteen's music, although I agree that he's a bit of a disappointment in other respects.
But, hey, I'm a disappointment too. I'm a very imperfect man.
I Love Bruce's music though.
