At Fort Hood, again.
My liberal friends, let me explain this, once more:
Gun free zones attract mass shooters like flames attract moths. The finest soldiers in the world were gunned down while they crawled on their hands and knees, with no way to defend themselves. Thanks, liberals.
I listened to a lib-tard radio newscaster today report that "officials are investigating why the shooter brought his handgun on the military base, where privately-owned weapons are prohibited."
Expecting mass shooters to obey gun control laws is like expecting hijackers to refrain from taking over a plane because the captain has the 'fasten seat-belt' sign turned on.
I can't believe the guy didn't heed the gun free zone sign on the way in. Weird.

These horrific massacres are not caused by guns, they're caused by ailing souls. We've changed as a people. We've always had guns, we haven't always had half a dozen spree shootings a year.
ReplyDeleteIt's so much easier to ban guns than it is to really search our national soul to see where we went wrong. The kids are most certainly not all right.

Egnor is a famous asshole who blames every ill in society on liberals. He never bothers to check whether his blame theories are right. And more often than not they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteSome people have already inquired when the military bases switched to strict gun control. The answer is in February 1992, at the initiative of Donald J. Atwood, deputy secretary of defense under President George H.W. Bush. Go here for details.
Hoo
I don't blame all ills on liberals. I have a GI virus, not caused by liberals.
DeleteAnd gun control is a liberal cause, no matter who imposed it on the military.
Hoo: do you think that gun free zones make mass shootings more or less likely?
Of course you blame every societal ill on liberals. our entire blog is a testimony to that.
DeleteAs to the GI virus, it isn't a societal problem.

Veterans suffer from extraordinarily high rates of mental illness, alcoholism and suicide, with far more veterans dying from suicide than from combat. If Fort Hood were to allow everyone to carry a gun I suspect it would become one of the most dangerous places on Earth.

I am always flabbergasted by liberal cluelessness. Strict gun control on military bases began in 1992. Therefore, KW, one can compare the rates of mass shootings on military bases prior to strict gun control to the rates after strict gun control, to see if strict gun control works. I know the concept of rudimentary analysis of data is difficult for you KW, being that you're a scientist and all, but stay with me.
It seems to me that there are more mass shootings after gun control than there were before. That isn't decisive (there are other factors involved in violence), but it tells pretty hard against your thesis that mass shootings skyrocket without gun control.
And I take issue with your assessent of veterans' mental health. The most gun-violence-prone Americans, without question, are inner city Democrats-- essentially all of the urban gun violence in the US is committed by a 100% Democrat demographic. There are no veterans or Republicans or NRA members involved in America's worst shooting zones.
Clean your own house before you tell us how to clean ours.
Egnor: "It seems to me that there are more mass shootings after gun control than there were before."
DeleteSeems? How about backing up your claim with some data? Is that a novel concept to you, Mr. Scientist?
Hoo
“There are no veterans or Republicans or NRA members involved in America's worst shooting zones.”
DeleteWhat an incredibly ignorant thing to say when the subject is the second mass shooting at Fort Hood in 5 years.
If you really think you can just compare pre and post 1992 statistics without factoring in multiple deployments in two counterinsurgency wars over a period of 13 years and the resulting PTSD, alcoholism, and depression issues with returning vets, you are far more clueless than me.
But hey, we wouldn’t want reality get in the way of the boner you get when you fantasize about shooting up all the bad guys.

Daily Truth™:
ReplyDeleteI've noticed a tendency by the "professional journalists" to emphasize the current suicide rates among veterans. Of course, their observations are emotive and contentless, giving the impression that "factoring in multiple deployments in two counterinsurgency wars over a period of 13 years" (Popeye the Ninja Love God, 2014) is a major factor.
So let's look and see.
The Suicide Data Report, 2012, issued by the VA, concludes:
Specifically, more than 69% of all Veteran suicides were among those aged 50 years and older
--- Table 3, p22
Moreover,
[S]uicide decedents identified as Veterans were more likely to have been married/widowed/divorced, be identified as non-Hispanic whites [92%, Table 7], and have comparatively higher levels of academic achievement.
--- p23
Doesn't quite fit the causal link implied in the Popeye's narrative, does it?
Here we have yet another example of conservatives throwing veterans under the bus whenever it’s convenient.

Data screws with KW's narrative, so OF COURSE resorting to data is "...throwing veterans under the bus…"
DeleteVets shooting up bases after the Civil War? After WWI? After WWII? After Korea? After Vietnam? Show us the incidents, KW. If you have data…..
