God bless our veterans

A special thanks to all who have served our country to protect our freedom.




How can we thank our vets? What can we do that would be anywhere near commensurate with their enormous sacrifices?

Lincoln said it:

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

We can fight for freedom in the arena in which we find ourselves. In our schools, in our jobs, in the voting booth, on the web. By doing so, we are doing the unfinished work which they who fought for freedom have thus far so nobly advanced.

    This holiday however, is Memorial Day. It's for the soldiers who have died in battle.

    Even so, God bless the veterans every day of the year.

    Could you give an example of Egnor's hate- and fear-mongering? I haven't seen it yet.

    I have, however, seen you defend infanticide, and not just the run-of-the-mill pre-birth infanticide, but post-birth as well.

    I call that hate.

  4. Yes, let's thank all the people who fight for freedom, including the brave people who stand up for the separation of church and state, like Jessica Ahlquist, and reject the nasty and vicious slurs against her by Michael Egnor.

    1. The prayer banner wasn't a threat to anyone's freedom. She was free to not believe in its presence. The freedom not to believe was never in peril.

      Please demonstrate a slur which Egnor used. If you can't, stop making unfounded accusations.

      So yes, that's not what he meant.

  5. Exercising one's freedoms may be a wonderful thing to do, but it isn't an act of patriotism. Defending freedom is.

    1. No, sir. I didn't say that. You don't understand what I'm saying and I don't think you're trying either. There's more than one way to defend one's freedom. The Catholic Church is defending its freedom right now from the overbearing, tyrannical, freedom-crushing Obama administration. They should have started sooner.

      Rosa Parks did more than exercise her freedom, she fought for it. A black person riding a bus today who sat while a white person stood would not get in any trouble. That person would still be exercising his/her freedom, but he/she wouldn't be doing anything patriotic. Actually, Rosa Parks is a great illustration of what I'm talking about.

      What I had in mind when I wrote the words you responded to was the Westboro Baptist Church. I can't express my revulsion for that organization without using profanity, so just let it be known that I don't like them. But, being a true liberal (which today makes me a conservative), I subscribe to the maxim, "I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death for your right to say it."

      Fred Phelps, pompous ass though he may be, is exercising his rights when he protests outside soldiers' funerals with signs that read "God Hates Fags" and "God Bless IED's." He is exercising his freedom, but that in and of itself is not an act of patriotism.

      How about the birthers? They spread the misinformation that Obama was actually born in Kenya. It isn't true, but they're exercising their free speech rights when they say that he is. It doesn't help Obama much that he used to fib about his biography just to gain extra victim points and accentuate his blackness. Are the birthers great patriots?

      And somehow you understood my comment to mean that the only true acts of patriotism involve killing people. I never said that and I don't mean it.

      You make dialogue useless. You're the reason why we can't have a civilized conversation in this country.

      I cast my first vote for George McGovern when I was eighteen years old because I didn't want our soldiers in Vietnam a moment longer. It was the only issue that mattered to me at the time.

    Did you see this trailer for Great Glory (Cristiana)?

    I almost fell out of my chair. It's a movie about freedom, and a movie about God and family! Surely this isn't a Hollywood film.

    The Mexican government tramples all over religious liberty and a group of freedom loving patriots decide to put up a fight.

    The fact that such a movie would come out now, when our government is at war with our religious liberty, is just delicious. I hope people draw parallels. They should. Don't ever say "It can't happen here." It is happening here!

      Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm definitely going to see this one.

      Heaven forbid Hollywood would put out a movie that isn't either A) profane, or B) the 900th installment of a Marvel comics franchise. From the trailer it looks like a movie about freedom and what it takes to defend it.

      It seems so relevant to the times we're living in.

    I had never heard of this film, or the war it portrays. After watching the trailer, I referred to Wikipedia to learn more about the Cristero War.

    It sounds exactly like what's happening today. Listen to their words and tell me that these murderous anti-Catholic tyrants don't sound like the loyal opposition on this blog, or like a college professor, or a liberal pundit on MSNBC. They use all the same arguments to oppress us as they did them, with all the same motivations.

    And then they try to tell us that it's for our own good!

    I will definitely see it when it comes out.
