There will be no walk-throughs...

Brent Bozell reflects on the remarkable media silence on the Kermit Gosnell abortion clinic trial:
The liberal media know an abortion outrage when they hear it. Sadly, they only seem to hear them from the mouths of Republican candidates, and it only takes a statement to outrage the press. Can't they find a single abortion outrage inside an abortion clinic? Such is their radicalism that nothing, absolutely nothing regarding this gruesome procedure raises their eyebrows, never mind their ire.

One emerging story proves the degree to which our "objective" media's views on abortion are dogmatic and extreme. Abortionist Kermit Gosnell is on trial in Philadelphia, and not just for killing babies outside the womb, but also for killing a mother through reckless use of anesthesia. Network TV coverage of the trial? Zero on ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, NPR and PBS. CNN's entire coverage seems to be one sentence from Jake Tapper on March 21...

The trial testimony is graphic and should make "choice" advocates sick to their stomachs. Again, see the AP: "A medical assistant told a jury Tuesday that she snipped the spines of at least 10 babies during unorthodox abortions at a West Philadelphia clinic, at the direction of the clinic's owner."...
It gets more grotesque at every turn. Clinic assistant Adrienne Moton testified she took a photo of the child described as "Baby A" with her cell phone before Dr. Gosnell took the baby out of the room. "I just saw a big baby boy. He had that color, that color that a baby has," Moton said in court. "I just felt he could have had a chance. ... He could have been born any day."
Another Gosnell assistant said the abortionist joked about one child he murdered: "This baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop." But the AP reported that Gosnell sat serenely in the courtroom, undisturbed by the accusations.
He's not alone. ABC, CBS and NBC piled up 96 stories on Todd Akin's medically inept comments on rape and abortion and also wallowed in outrage over Richard Mourdock's remarks on God's will and a child conceived in rape. Their pro-life rhetoric was sold as a major scandal. It's unbelievable that Dr. Gosnell's trial for his actions inside his "house of horrors" haven't drawn one network story.
The Gosnell abortion trial is toxic to the pro-abort culture, who will stop at nothing to hush it up. What's damning about Gosnell's baby abattoir is that it is what abortion is all about. Gosnell is merely being prosecuted for doing openly what all abortionists do daily-- mutilate and kill children. If pro-aborts could portray Gosnell as a complete out-lier, unrepresentative of abortionists everywhere, they would cover the trial. But they realize that putting an abortionist on trial for killing children immediately suggests the question: why just Gosnell?

At the end of World War II, allied armies that liberated Nazi concentration camps forced civilians who lived near the camps to walk through, to see the horror that they had abetted and ignored.

The media is making sure there will be no walk-throughs of the Women's Medical Society clinic on Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia.

Of course the networks are covering the story. Bozell is lying.
ABC: Alleged Victim Calls Philadelphia Abortion Doc Kermit Gosnell a 'Monster'
CBS: Dr. Kermit Gosnell, Pa. abortion doctor, disputes "killings" at clinic during murder trial
NBC: 'House of horrors' alleged at abortion clinic

And here is President Emeritus of NARAL at Huffington Post weighing in with her opinion.

You, guys, have a distorted perception of reality.

    1. They are covering the story up here, but the outrage is somewhat muted.
Pop issues like gay marriage seem to have captured the attention of the people , and the nastiness of Gosnell and his ilk is seen (mostly) as impolite discussion. Nobody likes it, but are all to PC to discuss it. A lefty's feelings are more important, it seems, than an industry of death. Obvious social conditioning.
      Disgusting, but true.
Let's hope for some serious blowback.

    2. Hoo, I wish you were a little more upset with Kermit Gosnell and a little less with Brent Bozell.

I clicked on some of your links, and several of them have nothing to do with the trial. Reading comprehension, Hoo. Brent Bozell didn't say that the news outlets didn't mention Gosnell at all, he said that they didn't mention the trial. I see that CBS and CNN did. Okay. The NPR story was tangential. The New York Times did a story on the trial, but the NYT was not one of the news outlets Bozell mentioned.

Coverage is, however, sparse. Do you dispute that? In a country in which we find unlimited space in newspapers and nightly newscasts for Matthew Shepard, Trayvon Martin, and Abu Ghraib, couldn't we talk just a little more about Gosnell and his house of horrors? More people died in Gosenll's clinic than in the aforementioned news stories combined. Maybe reporters could get off their asses and do their jobs every once in a while.

Do you detect an agenda here? I do.

    3. TRISH,

Let's not move the goalposts. Bozell says that coverage of Gosnell's trial is non-existent. That's simply not true. The networks did cover it. It's not wall-to-wall, 24/7, sure. If you want that, go to FOX News. Philadelphia Inquirer covers it pretty thoroughly, too.

Don't count on it, Trish. Coverage of Fast and Furious is sparse too. CBS and Fox News have covered the story, but other news outlets, not so much. More people died in F&F than in Kermit Gosnell's butcher shop. Eric Holder has stonewalled and been found in contempt of Congress, and the media thinks it's all no bigee. I'm sure that if John Ashcroft had been found in contempt of Congress, the media would have treated him the same way.

Do you detect an agenda here?

      Yes.

The AP's coverage of the trial includes the assertion that the defendant is "elegant." They just can't stop gushing over this murderous monster. Gosnell, an elegant man who appears serene in court, smiled softly as he listened to testimony last week, even that of a young woman who said she was hospitalized for two weeks after a 2009 abortion.

      Elegant? Serene? Smiled softly?

Another angle: Dr. Mengele, I mean Dr. Gosnell, is playing the race card. His lawyer, John McMahon, has called this an "elitist, racist prosecution," and a "lynching." I don't know if the race card will work in this situation but it's worth a try. When in doubt, scream "Racism!" as loud as possible and as many times as neccesary.

    5. Bozell got it wrong in the case of CNN and CBS. I see that. I still contend that the news media does not want to cover this story because they have an agenda. Some stories are wall to wall, and others are mentioned once or twice and then forgotten. The media decide which are which.

  2. Hoo:

"Network TV coverage of the trial? Zero..."

Your ABC link is to a story that says nothing about the trial. (It appears to be an old story, but I couldn't find a date.) Likewise for the NBC story, which ends with this line: "...Gosnell had previously insisted he was innocent of any crimes and predicted he would be acquitted if he was charged." Well, he has been charged, and is currently being tried. The NBC story is stale (but accurate).

Your CBS link is to a story published on the web. Did the story actually air on TV?

    Well, here's the good news:

Today, there are just 13 freestanding providers of surgical abortion care in Pennsylvania, down from 22 two years ago.

Pennsylvania is not alone in developing strategies to regulate abortion care right out of existence. In fact, state legislatures have enacted 135 abortion restrictions in the last two years, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

    -- Michelman/Tracy, Puffington Ho'

Mississippi passed a law (PuffHo', 6/20212) requiring abortionists to be qualified to perform abortions (i.e., a licensed OB/GYN with local hospital privileges) that may well kill industrial abortion in the state.

  4. Personally, I blame the media quiet on the apathy and the primed ignorance of the population.
The news media wants something the execs know they can sell advertising for. Our populations are conditioned to turn the other way on this issue.
They need a good shock to wake them up.

Oh, come on! So what if Gosnell sometimes performed abortions outside the womb? I mean, simply everyone knows that "unorthodox" is a term a praise for "liberals".

    ====
Still, the way the "liberals" are dancing around this does demonstrate that even they know that there is no moral difference between abortion and infanticide.

Ilion, you are so wrong! There's no such thing as "infanticide". It's post-birth abortion...

[During a Florida legislative hearing] Alisa LaPolt Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor.

Planned Parenthood is a responsible industrial abortion mill, cranking them out by the millions. They obey all the EPA and HHS regulations regarding disposal of the tiny parasites. Besides, every additional abortion is a blow against global warming and overpopulation. How dare you question their re-classification of infanticide as post-birth abortion?
