Donald Sperling, the NAACP, and the "civil rights" shakedown

The face of the NAACP: a rich racist and a disbarred judge.

From ABC:
LA NAACP Head Resigns Over Move to Honor Sterling
The real scandal in the Sterling fiasco isn't about an elitist philandering trail lawyer with girlfriends who could be his granddaughters and who is a shameless racist. After all, jerks like Sterling have worn hoods with eyeholes (and made common cause with guys with hoods with eyeholes) for a century and a half. And I hasten to remind the reader that they all have been Progressives.

Another one turns out to be a racist. Knock me over with a feather.

The real interesting scandal here is the cozy relationship this octogenarian Bull Connor has with the NAACP.

What the hell, you might ask, would the nation's premiere civil rights organization (I'm not counting the NRA) be doing when it planned to present this well-known life-long racist-- a man who was actually prosecuted successfully by the Justice Department for racial discrimination-- with an NAACP "2014 Lifetime Achievement Award" for his "generosity, inspiration, and leadership"?

Was Sperling chosen for the civil rights award because George Wallace was dead and David Duke was unavailable?

From the ABC report:

The Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP offered the same thing for Clippers owner Donald Sterling and civil rights advocate Leon Jenkins — an opportunity for image rehabilitation.
Sterling, a big-name donor, made contributions that helped earn him NAACP awards as he tried to recover from a damaging discrimination lawsuit. Jenkins, the LA chapter's president, sought to use his volunteer work to show he was ready to return to practicing law after having been disbarred.
Disbarred? The Los Angeles NAACP president is a disbarred lawyer?
Sterling and Jenkins have known each other at least since 2009, when the business magnate was honored by the new leader of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It was the same year Sterling agreed to pay $2.7 million to settle federal charges that he refused to rent apartments to blacks and Hispanics.
So this is the second time the NAACP has honored this Sterling? The first time was right after he paid millions of dollars in a Justice Department prosecution for racism.
Sterling had been honored for donating to minority charities and giving game tickets to inner-city children, Jenkins said.
How sweet and innocent. At least Sterling never gave money to the NAACP itself.
The Donald T. Sterling Charitable Foundation gave $5,000 to the NAACP's Los Angeles chapter in 2010, according to tax records. There was no record of contributions in other years.
Jenkins' resignation represents a second major public setback.
Well, I'm sure that the NAACP was beyond reproach in this matter.
More than 25 years ago, federal prosecutors charged Jenkins, then a young Michigan judge, with extortion and racketeering conspiracy. Authorities said he requested and received money, jewelry, a handgun and other gifts to dismiss traffic tickets and other misdemeanors.
Jenkins was acquitted after two trials, but in 1991 the Michigan Supreme Court removed him from the bench, saying he "systematically and routinely sold his office and his public trust." Michigan and California subsequently banned him from practicing law.

The NAACP Los Angeles chapter president is a disbarred judge who sold judicial favors in exchange for money and who planned to award a "lifetime achievement award" to a filthy rich racist who... dispensed money to minorities.

Wanna bet how much of Sterling's money actually went to poor black kids in Watts?

The modern "civil rights"movement, embodied by Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP, is hardly more than a shake-down operation. Just gangsters.

This of course will be stuffed down the mainstream media memory hole asap. The reporter who wrote this ABC News story is probably already looking for another job.

Can you imagine the stink if it was discovered that Sterling was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award from a conservative Republican organization? It would be headline news for the next two years, right through the next couple of election cycles.

The real modern civil rights movement is the movement-- made up almost entirely of conservative Republicans, which was the demographic of the original civil rights movement from the 1850's to today-- to secure color-blind law and make character, rather than race, the basis for our social contract.

It's only a slight inconvenience that Sterling happens to be a registered Republican.

    1. That's one for Guinness Book of World Records. The First Racist Who Is a Republican.

The only party that Sterling has ever contributed money to starts with a "D".

So now the Registered Democrat/Republican racist ratio is 100,000,000/1.

Starting to even out, after 200 years, eh?

    2. Oh, the Repubs are making great strides. If you think Sterling is the first ever racist Republican, you've been living under a rock. Let's recall a few tender moments that Republicans would love to forget.

Let's start with George Allen's Macaca moment. That was a classic implosion.

    3. Ha Ha,

That's the best you can do? One obscure word uttered by one peripheral Republican?

The Democrat history if racism is one of mass murder, enslavement, lynching, and massive systematic crimes against humanity.

Republicans said a word. One Republican. Once.

      Seems equivalent to me.

    4. That's already 2 Republicans, Egnor. (Math is probably not your strong suit.) And Allen is not exactly a peripheral figure. He was a US Senator for Virginia from 2000 to 2006, in case you didn't know it. It was the Macaca moment that cost him reelection to the Senate in 2006. He now serves on the board of Young America's Foundation, where he no doubt leads the young Republican minds by example.

    5. Let's move to the next example from the recent past.

In 2002, Trent Lott, the Senate Republican Leader, had this to say about his Senate colleague: "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either." I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to find out on what presidential platform Thurmond ran in 1948.

After this implosion, Lott had to resign his position as Senate Minority Leader.

My expectation is that Egnor will try to downplay this one again, calling Lott a minor figure or some such. He will refer to a bazillion racist Democrats without naming any of them.

This whole thing may turn out to be one of the more entertaining circuses we've seen in a while. For example, President Jeebus McLightworker, a man with "deep roots in the American South" ;-), has announced that paying black players $20 million a year while despising them is a "legacy of race and slavery and segregation". Well, if that's true, Mr Preezy o' th' Skeezy, put me on the plantation. I don't care as long as the paychecks roll in. Anyway, the Preezy's 15 minutes of fame on this issue are over.

No, what's going to be interesting is the lawsuit. The NBA had told Sterling he can't own the team anymore. And ownership of an NBA team is not like owning one's own independent dry cleaning business. The NBA is a franchise organization, and owning a team is more like owning a McDonald's. Yeah, you "own" it, but... try serving your own burger sauce.

Complicating all this, Sterling's wife is also an owner and is accused of nothing. She is a complete innocent in this matter as far as I know. Broadly speaking, under California community property law, anything he owns, she owns. They can't get rid of him without getting rid of her. (BTW, this little aspect of CA law is going to bite a lot of divorcing gays, who got married in the dizzy outpouring of exuberance following the legal defeat of Prop 8, right in the ass). Is this juicy? Oh yeah. A litigator's dream!

Take the asshole out of Donald Sterling and all you'd have left is a pair of shoes. So I think he may just take this to the mat. Theoretically, it could go all the way to SCOTUS. At the very least, he will have a talented team of lawyers who are going to be falling all over themselves to wring the last drop of notoriety from this case. And they will want to drag this thing out - because as long as it drags along through the courts, he owns, if not controls, the team - and dig up as much muck as possible. And folks, that means... discovery.

Who knows, but discovery could be very, very bad for the NBA franchise and for any number of the owners. But entertaining for us!

Of course, all this remains to be seen. The leopard may change its spots and Sterling - or, more accurately, both Sterlings - may go gentle into that good night. But he doesn't own this team because he needs the money, he owns the team for the same reason I've owned a luxury sports car... he can afford it and it's a toy for him.

As a final amusing note, I hear that the latest Proglodyte solution is to ban the NBA from using the word "owner" to describe the people who own the franchises. Yeah. That should work.

By the way, and as a grace note, I find it interesting that the legality of Sterling's recorded rant has not gotten more attention.

California's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. California makes it a crime to record or eavesdrop on any confidential communication, including a private conversation or telephone call, without the consent of all parties to the conversation. See Cal. Penal Code § 632. The statute applies to "confidential communications" -- i.e., conversations in which one of the parties has an objectively reasonable expectation that no one is listening in or overhearing the conversation.

However reptilian Donald Sterling may be, he is being illegally railroaded here. I'm sure his lawyers won't overlook this little detail.

  3. The Progressive movement began in the late 19th century. It was highly associated with Jim Crow and segregation-- segregation is, after all, a massive government social engineering project, which was the raison de etre of the Progressive movement. Essentially all segregationists were Progressives. The first Progressive Democrat president, Woodrow Wilson, was a racist who re-segregated the federal government (after conservative Republicans had desegregated it) and who was a strong booster of the KKK (he welcomed and screened the KKK movie "Birth of a Nation" in the White House).

Virtually all of the Southern racist segregationists were New Deal Democrats. They believed in Big Government and government-mandated social engineering.

The few non-racists in the Democrat Party were their collaborators: Roosevelt and his cronies cut deals constantly with their racist Democrat comrades in order to keep power (Roosevelt appointed KKK recruiter Hugo Black to the Supreme Court because he was a huge supporter of the New Deal in the Senate.)

You own racism, KW. The central stratagem of modern Progressivism has been to lie about its history, which is racist to the bone.

Here's a simple test for a racist: I support colorblind application of the law. Do you?

  6. The funny thing about this hand bill is that it thanks him for his generosity, a nice way of saying that he wrote them a big check.

The NAACP has a rather sordid past. One of its co-founders was W.E.B. Dubois, a communist who never met an enemy of America he didn't like, including Nazi Germany, for a brief period of time. DuBois was also completely opposed to integration. "Absolutely segregate the races," he said. Like a lot of black people today who insist on black professional organizations, black awards, black dorms, black fraternities, black caucuses, black proms, and black graduations, DuBois liked segregation quite a bit so long as blacks were excluding, not being excluded.

Most of the NAACP's cofounders were white.

Interesting you should bring up segregation, Ben. Drudge has a link today on that very subject. Here's a snippet:

For students like Diamond McCullough, 17, a senior at Walter H. Dyett High School on Chicago's South Side, the disparities are real. Her school is made up almost entirely of African-American students. She said her school doesn't offer physical education classes or art, and Advanced Placement classes are only available online.

  10. Here's a simple test for a racist: I support colorblind application of the law. Do you?

Why is it then that the only aspect of racial application of the law you seem to care about is affirmative action? You claim to be a champion of civil rights but the only right you seem to actually care about is ensuring privileged white kids get to go to school over less privileged black kids. Where are your posts of racial inequities by law enforcement and the judicial system? These inequities have a far more negative impact on society than a bunch of white kids having to go to their safety school. For you “color blind application of the law” means little more than refusing to help black kids go to college or get a job.

To say that your concerns about racism are decidedly pro-white and critical of blacks would be a vast understatement.

  12. Shouldn't the NAACP be recognized as a racist institute? After all, they work to advance causes for people with black/brown skin color. Any group which uses race as a crutch to get special treatment doesn't deserve respect.

Let's see, Sterling has a black coach, black general manager and 11 out of 14 of the Clippers are black. If anything, isn't that racist against whites and other minorities? Perhaps we need to start enforcing equality in the workplace in sports. Or maybe segregated leagues, as Larry Johnson advocated for.

Yes to all that as far as it goes but this runs much deeper.
For example; it is the tax free endowments in America (Carnegie, Ford etc) who have been at the centre of this cultural decay, not the Marxists.

see also ;' The CIA funded the feminist movement' a google search will throw up some references.

Sometimes blaming The Left is a strategy to avoid harder questions. 'The Left' simply did not have the intellectual imagination to conceive of 'the long march through the institutions'.

I'm afraid The right has arrived at that conclusion after finally noticing the wreckage of western Civilisation.

Anyway.....look forward to reading your comments....

    8. Both parties are two sides of the same coin. The powers that be present the public with two (sometimes three) candidates in order to give the illusion of choice, when in fact there is only one choice. You'll never see a true independent with conservative values and liberal policies (as far as individual liberties are concerned).

As soon as the Tea Party political movement arrived on the scene, the MSM went ballistic characterizing them as a white supremacist, backwards, extremist and anti-government, when in reality they favor smaller government, fiscal responsibility, regulation, an end to government bailouts of banks and corporate enterprises, etc. Which explains why both entrenched political parties hate them.

Notice how you never hear outrage from the MSM about the $862 billion slush fund for the Obama administration's buddies. Or how about the $16 billion wasted to bailout GM. Yeah, a lot of good that did. Bush accumulated 5.1 trillion in debt, which is horrendous, but Obama has already accumulated over 7 trillion and he's still got more than two years left in office. The only possible explanation is that they mean to separate us into two classes, rich and poor, or powerful vs subservient, with the latter relying upon government for sustenance. Income tax was created to give the illusion that real money is being lent into circulation, so that they can fleece the public of wealth and property. Hence why the government has a vested interest in disarming the public, so that when the banking cartels call in the debt, they can seize American assets and eliminate our sovereignty without fear of reprisal.
