Prelude to an IRS audit

Elementary school teacher publicly disses Common Core:
‘Today was the first day I was ever ashamed to be a teacher’
Common Core is merely an opportunity for education elites to gain power and make sure the indoctrination of our kids is airtight, as well as provide a lucrative opportunity for government contracting and product placement. The guy has balls to call it out.

Somewhere there's a light on in an IRS office, working late.

  1. The tin-foil brigade is out again.

Jennifer Rubin has tried to reassure conservatives that CC isn't a government conspiracy. I have low expectations that her reasoning will calm them down. They don't even read Washington Post.

    1. Hoo, the IRS audits one percent of Americans every year but somehow managed to audit ten percent of Americans who donated to conservative organizations. That's statistically significant.

      http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/7/house-republicans-find-10-of-tea-party-donors-audi/

Glenn Beck, Dr. Ben Carson, Christine O'Donnell. Purely coincidental, I'm sure. You could just as easily name off three prominent liberals who have been audited since 2009. Right?

We know that someone in the IRS illegally leaked confidential tax information to ProPublica, which they say is an "honest mistake." We also know that the list of donors to Yes on Prop 8 was illegally leaked to the "Human Rights Campaign" hate group and the LA Times, thus allowing homosexual bullies to humiliate and discriminate against people they despise.

So there's a real scandal here, which is why Lois Lerner is constantly pleading the fifth. She and the entire Obama Administration are stonewalling. Hard to believe that they promised to be the most transparent administration in history.

    2. Joey, can you explain the relevance of your comment to Common Core?

      Thanks,

    3. Joey, stop confusing him with facts.

He asked me in previous discussion to give examples of anti-Christian discrimination in this country. I listed off about a dozen, which he blithely dismissed as "hearsay."

He doesn't believe anything or anyone who doesn't reinforce his already preconceived notions. He's a close-minded ignoramus of the first order. There's no use talking to him.

    5. My comment was about the IRS audits.

"Can someone here explain to me what the IRS has to do with Common Core?"

People who oppose the president's agenda have targets on their backs. The tax man will be knocking on their door and the tax man always wins. That's the connection.

      Or the "Reverend" Sharpton?

      Or Charlie Rangel?

      Just curious, Poploid.

    12. You would have a point if I had said only conservatives cheat on their taxes. Of course I didn’t, but if you want to pretend that I did to give yourself a little victory I understand, you could use a win no matter how small or imaginary.

Poploid: "You would have a point if I had said only conservatives cheat on their taxes"

And you would have had a point if you had posted a shred of evidence that "conservatives are more likely to be tax cheats".

So regurg it up, Pops. Show us the data. Here's some from Pew Research

Morality of Not Reporting All Income on Your Taxes

      (% morally wrong)
      86% Conservatives
      77% Moderate
      68% Liberal

      (% not a moral issue)
      8% Conservative
      16% Moderate
      23% Liberal

Your ignorance is astonishing, Poploid. You may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but you're a good little tool nevertheless. Reliable.

    15. I bet conservatives will also tell you it’s wrong to masturbate too, so what?

Even if the question was an outright “Do you cheat on your taxes?” instead of “is cheating on your taxes wrong?” there’s this thing called “social desirability bias”, it’s when pollees answer the question according to what they think is right regardless of what they actually do. Five times as many Christians say they tithe 10% or more than actually do, and twice as many say they go to church weekly than actually do. If there’s one thing the data shows, its conservatives lie on polls.

Can you at least admit that conservatives complain about taxes more than liberals? And that given this fact, nobody should be surprised if they are more likely to be tax cheats? Consider Bundy, he owes the Feds millions and has been held up as a hero by the conservative media, or the sovereign citizen movement, many of them refuse to pay taxes and there’s no doubt they’re conservatives.

    17. Sturmbahnfuehrer cites a poll:

Morality of Not Reporting All Income on Your Taxes

And guess what? A greater percentage of conservatives than liberals self-report it as immoral.

What a surprise. Perfectly consistent with my working hypothesis that conservatives have a greater tendency to be liars and hypocrites - certainly the ones on this blog, what with Egnor being a proud member of the proven frauds calling themselves the Discovery Institute, and Egnor's demented little parrot who likes to refer to himself by fancy military and political titles.

That's one of the many ill effects of Christianity: it encourages dishonesty. Unless you insult the Holy Spirit, Jeebus will forgive anything, and the people wronged by your dishonesty will be compensated in the afterlife anyway.

I don't know enough about Common Core to remark on it. However, I am an advocate of testing. I understand that many teachers hate testing, but in the years I made up, administered, and graded tests I learned two things about them. They are feedback to students, and they are feedback to teachers. Closing the feedback loop is a sine qua non for process control. Education is a goal-directed process and without feedback cannot possibly succeed.

There are two basic problems in public education today.

First and foremost, teachers' unions and parents, by and large, have different goals. The teachers' union seeks to improve the lot of teachers at the expense of students.

Second, the influence of educational philosopher John Dewey has been strongly negative.

Horace Mann, one of America's most famous educators, believed that the success of the American experiment depended on "“intelligence and virtue" and sought to inculcate both in the school system. We sometimes call the product of Horace Mann's view "The Greatest Generation".

It was John Dewey who was enamored with Soviet education and advocated making schools institutions for "social reform". We often call the products of John Dewey's view "slackers", or the "Sandra Fluke Generation".

There is a third problem, of course, but it has nothing to do with public schools per se. Schools of Education in universities have turned into an academic joke. It was academic Ed.D.s who observed that children with learning disabilities often had trouble walking a balance board. With "statistically significant" correlations in hand, Wisconsin public schools undertook a massive multi-million dollar effort to improve dyslexic children's reading scores by training them to walk on the edge of 2X4s. Speaking of testing, here's a test for Ed schools:
BOSTON -- At least a third of the 1,800 candidates who took Massachusetts' first teacher certification test are not qualified because they can't read or write well enough, state Commissioner of Education Frank Haydu III said yesterday.
    --- Baltimore Sun (1998)
The problem in academia today is far worse today than it was then.
