In flagging economy, low-skill employee gets rehired

(Dissociated Press) In a bright spot amidst an economy in ruins, a failed employee of a large American firm was rehired Tuesday.

Barry Soetoro, 51, of Washington, D.C., looked like a cinch to lose his job of four years.

His current position was Soetoro's first real job-- he dabbled as an "instructor" at a local college and as a peripatetic "community organizer" for many years, before taking two brief no-show jobs prior to his current employment.

"Basically" one of Soetoro's co-workers noted, "Barry never even ran a lemonade stand before he got this gig".

Soetoro's co-workers said that his lack of experience and competence showed.

"We gave him a few things to do, and he failed at each one of them" noted a manager who had watched Soetoro's performance for the past four years. "He was all talk, but our company is still not hiring new employees, is still in massive debt and losing money year after year. He even got a few of our employees overseas killed, and then lied about it."
Despite Soetoro's miserable performance, he has-- inexplicably-- been rehired.

"He's got a nice smile", noted an observer, "and he promised some folks on the hiring committee that he'd take stuff from other workers and give it to them."
Some analysts believe that Soetoro's proposed replacement-- Willard Rumney-- was overqualified for the job. "He was really competent, which was a turn-off" noted one observer.

On the bright side, many unemployed workers seem to view Soetoro's bizarre re-hiring as an encouraging sign. Sam Screwed, an unemployed coal miner, summed it up:

"Let's face it. If this guy can get rehired, anybody can get a job!"

  1. Obama is the first president since Reagan to be elected to two terms with a majority in the popular vote in each election. Keep whining and bitching. unless it radically changes, the Republican party won't win a national election again.

    1. Hmmm...let me see, did the Democrats ever win another national election after Reagan?

    2. Joey:

You missed the part that said "Unless it radically changes". Between Mondale and Clinton, the Democratic party changed by quite a bit. And so did the country. And the changes in the country are not going the direction the Republicans need it to in order to win national elections with their current strategies.

  2. Michael,

Keep on weeping about the Republicans' loss. I'm really enjoying it, Schadenfreude and all that.

If you think that Romney was overqualified for the job of POTUS, then you're even more deluded than I'd thought.

The problem was that no one actually knew what Romney actually stood for. Was he the hard right candidate of the primaries? Or the moderate after the first debate? If he'd been elected and slashed government spending, including welfare, as he'd apparently promised, he would have driven the American economy into a recession (the American economy has been growing, albeit slowly, for two years), and repeating the mistake David Cameron made in Britain in 2010.

The fiscal position of the American government has to be addressed. But not now, not when slashing government spending will actually worsen the deficit rather than improve it.

    1. Republicans don’t care. They are satisfied to suffer as long as their foes suffer more. They would be happy to live in a box and eat gruel in the church basement as long as the “takers” have it worse than them. Of course it’s going to get bad, the apocalypse is comin don’t you know; why it may already be here.

  3. Ah yes, the old “Lazy black man” stereotype. That’s always a good way to fire-up the troopers for some good old-fashioned race hate.

    1. Well, look on the bright side. That means Egnor now considers himself a liberal.

  4. Barry finished top of his class in Harvard Law School and could have made a fortune at any law firm of his choosing. Instead, he decided to defend the poor and unfortunate for a pittance.

In contrast, Mitt specialized in borrowing lots of money to buy out companies, to charge those companies millions of dollars in 'management fees', to loot their pension funds, and to ship the production overseas where labor is cheaper. When the companies went bankrupt, government money was used to make up for the looted pensions. In other words, Romney used tax payers' money to enrich himself and his cronies. Same story with his government bail-out of the Olympics. The guy has been a professional parasite of government bail-outs all his professional life.

    Who's the better man?

    1. You know, you're right. I saw him working hard with social activists Jay-Z and Beyonce at the 40/40 Club. The man works for a pittance. Somebody should send him a few bucks so the wife and kids can take a vacation.

    2. Great. So he's brilliant. Magna Cum Laude and all of that.

Trump offered five million to Obama's favorite charity if he would release his school records and he didn't. Trump is a clown, granted, but he's a clown with five million bucks. What does Obama have to hide?

If I could get five million for my favorite charity and all I had to do was brag about my academic prowess, I'd do it.

  5. Oh come on Egnor.

You know this means plenty more of your pissing and moaning on this blog of yours.

Just like the pundits limbaugh, the fox news crew and ann coulter, but at least when they do it, it helps them make a living..

  6. He provided some services he got paid for it. What's wrong with that? My plumber charged me too when he fixed my toilet.

Didn't Obama bail out the banksters at Wall Street and GM and Chrysler too?

Fact is, that is how the world businesses operate now. They have it done where the costs are cheaper. Many call center functions of companies in the west are handled in Asia. Outsourcing is the name of the game now, around the world. Even here in Australia gov't departments outsource their back office data processing work via cloud computing to private companies in the country and also in Asia.

As Steve Jobs said: some jobs will not come back anymore. Just face up to the new way of business.

  7. Just face up to the new way of business.

That's exactly what Jesus would have said.
