"... maggots in the rice..."

Population control: China's One Child Policy.
A baby girl, dumped on a street in China.
Talia Carner:
To the Chinese authorities, abandoned girls are merely worthless trash. “I called the emergency services, but nobody came,” says the woman who found this latest little victim. (For fear of official reprisal, she wishes to remain anonymous.) “The baby was lying right near the government tax office, so many people in government just walked past.” Eventually, an old man picked up the child, put her in a box, and dropped her in a garbage bin. When the police finally arrived, they showed no interest in investigating her death. They instead arrested the woman who’d tried to save her. “I took some photographs, because it was so terrible; the police were more worried about my pictures than the baby,” she says. The police only released the woman once she handed over her film.

China's brutal One Child Policy, along with population control schemes in India, have caused the largest femicide in history-- one hundred million girls are "missing" in Asia. But of course they're not really "missing". We know exactly what happened. They were killed.

Motivated by Malthusian junk science-- espoused by Western population control fanatics-- the Chinese government continues to perpetrate one of the great crimes against humanity. The One-Child Policy has so twisted Chinese culture and traditions that girls are euphemistically referred to in China as "maggots in the rice."

The family is the basis for human flourishing. That has been the teaching of all of the great religions, and is the cornerstone of the Christian understanding of man. Perhaps the ugliest distortion caused by atheist secularism today is the destruction of the family-- by aborting our children, by totalitarian population control schemes, by unlinking sexual love and procreation via contraception, by substituting the State for the father in many poor families, by usurping the prerogatives of the family via education indoctrination in schools.

The result is a nightmare-- poignantly on display in the picture above. One of the world's most venerable and ethical civilizations is reduced by Malthusian population control-- totalitarian junk science-- to discarding its precious daughters in the gutter like trash.

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

In addition to Egnor's comments, here's a short segment of a security video showing a small girl child run over twice by a van and left for dead in the street while more than a dozen passersby simply ignore or step around her:

As an aside, given the direction of the comment thread, atheism is the State Religion of Communist China.

The declaration of Christianity as accepted religion in the Roman Empire drove an expansion of the provision of [medical] care. Following First Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. construction of a hospital in every cathedral town was begun.

  4. Pathological liar Egnor is making shit up again:

That expression predates the One-Child Policy by a long time, of course. The cultural bias against girls has been around in China for centuries.

So you guys instituted a One Child Policy in a country with centuries of cultural bias against girls. You knew that you would cause a femicide.

The known history of bias in China makes the framers of the One Child Policy more culpable, not less culpable, for the femicide.

You knew that girls would be killed.

Egnor, it's never the fault of Leftists when their absurd policies go horribly wrong. It's always the fault of the people.

      Here's one solution:

      Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
      To dissolve the people
      And elect another?

    3. Michael,

You're amazing. You link to a 2001 article so as to criticise a Chinese policy that's on its way out in 2013 (the Chinese government has come to realise that an ageing population is more serious than a rapidly growing population).

Then you blame Western liberals for a Chinese policy. The Chinese government does what the Chinese government wants to do, and doesn't respond well to foreign criticism (rather similar to American conservatives and foreign criticism of America's love of guns).

And then you decry the traditional disdain of daughters. Actually China's One Child Policy has actually improved the situation slightly. China saves so much compared to America, partly because rich parents of sons save to make their sons more appealing as future sons-in-law to less well off parents of daughters.

Not the best way of accomplishing a useful social gain, but still a gain.

Can you blame me? I was a little kid when the once-child policy was introduced. The Chinese government asked my advice the day after the evil girl from the neighbors crushed my toy car.

So you admit that you made it up - that the expression "maggots in the rice" dates from after the policy's introduction. Good. Confession cleanses the soul.

You need to see either an eye doctor (new glasses?), a shrink (if it was an illusion), or an engineer (in case it was your megapixel goggle prosthetics on the fritz).

Of course, I can understand why you would be sensitive to the issue of Junk Science. It's your field.

Oh, maybe it was your brain confabulating:

Confabulation is a memory disturbance, defined as the production of fabricated, distorted or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world, without the conscious intention to deceive... Most known causes of confabulation are caused by brain damage or dementias, such as alcoholism, aneurysm or Alzheimer's disease.

  5. Troy, you idiot. You quote prophesy but fail to understand that the desolation described by the prophet is neither caused by nor desired by God. Kind of like 'Johnny, don't touch the stove! You will burn your finger!' Johnny touches the stove anyway, annnnnd, Troy blames God.

David, it is always futile to expect atheists who quote the Bible to have actually read it. They get these quotes as snippets from evangelical atheist screeds, and the internet.

One beautiful example is that given by Terry Eagleton, a distinguished literary critic, theorist, and currently John Edward Taylor chair of Cultural Theory at the University of Manchester, in his review of Dawkins' The God Delusion in the London Review of Books:

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology.

Our boi Troi is still operating at the flash card level.

    2. Georgie,

I've read the Bible. I have 3 copies at home. Whenever anyone quotes the Bible, I go and read the text, including at least the chapter in which it's included (to ensure I understand the context and that the person quoting isn't 'quote mining' like creationists).

      Try again.

Actually, as you probably know (pants on fire),

The Pew Forum on Religious Religion and Public Life released today. Atheists and Agnostics scored higher on it than anyone else, closely followed by Jews and Mormons, all Christians, Protestants and Catholics, were far behind.

      From here.

No need to try again, batfark. It makes no more sense to read the Bible without a background in theology and ancient Levantine culture than it does to read Homer without an understanding of ancient Greek polytheism and culture.

      Dear Bwahaha:

I thought we were talking about reading the Bible.

Did you bother to look at the Pew survey questions? I already know the answer to that, so here's a sample for other readers:

Ramadan is the Islamic holy month.
      Joseph Smith was a Mormon.
Most people in Indonesia are Muslim.
      Jewish Sabbath begins on Friday.
      Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
Johnathan Edwards participated in the First Great Awakening.

And reading the Bible is relevant to knowing about Ramadan?
