Jeff Shallit takes on the Blessed Mother and me.

Jeff Shallit from Recursivity:

Oh, look: the brilliant brain surgeon Michael Egnor has a blog, which is called (I kid you not), "Egnorance".

This is destined to be an endless fountain of unintended amusement.

Already we have the renowned Dr. Egnor claiming that Mary is "the original Christian disciple, and a model and a mother for all of us".

Let's see: Mary

* had affair with some guy not her husband
* got pregnant by him
* lied about it
* convinces gullible husband that it was actually some god who raped her

Yes, I'd say that she certainly is a good role model for theists.

Jeff's take down of Mary:

* had affair with some guy not her husband

Her affair was to trust and obey and love God. We Christians call it faith. It's an affair to which we are all called. And it's not extramarital. Marriage is, in fact, a manifestation of that love and trust and obedience.

* got pregnant by him

She did. Love Itself became flesh, through her.

* lied about it

She never lied.

* convinces gullible husband that it was actually some god who raped her

Joseph believed her, and loved her and her Child, to his eternal credit.

Rape means:

1) Carnal, which her conception of the Lord was not.

2) Non-consensual. She consented: “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

Dr. Shallit will no doubt think this all silly superstition.

Dr. Shallit believes that the world arose from nothing, derives its intelligibility from nothing, and is held in existence at every moment by nothing. He believes that life arose with no plan, and evolves with no design. He believes that man is an accident, and his life has no purpose.

Dr. Shallit calls people who challenge his superstition 'superstitious'.

  1. The following applies very well to Shallit and all those poor (and a bit retarded) atheists-darwinists out there!

    “The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well-developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.” Sir Peter Medawar (The Phenomenon of Man)

  2. Note how we completely AVOIDS the concept of the first Christian Disciple being a woman?
    I think a lot can also be inferred with regard to this bloggers ideas on women and sexuality. I am no shrink, but I think this is more than a cigar here!
    Then there is the cowardly aspect:
    Such vitriol against the very culture that has allowed the Atheist dogma to flourish.
    I wonder if these men would have the courage to make such statements about the Muslim prophet Muhammad while living in a Muslim country? I highly doubt it. In fact the mere suggestion of such 'in your face' actions no doubt brings on flashbacks of being stuffed into high school lockers...by girls. They strike only because they know that Christians will turn the other cheek.
    Yes I am calling them intellectual cowards. Ingrate too; why not?

    I think not, unless they would want to be the happy recipient of a fatwa and then be history.

  4. What amuses me is that the typical militant atheist thinks there is little offensive about uttering such "truths", but would vociferously protest about incivility were we to utter something probably much closer to the truth:

    The typical militant atheist is so addled by his addictions to fornication, masturbation, and pornography that he considers God to be his mortal enemy.

    My thoughts exactly. Christianity is a traget of opportunity for these GNU cowards.

    I am starting to become convinced that backlash - or reciprocal nastiness - is EXACTLY what they hope to achieve with such "truths" (libels actually). It feeds into their persecution complex.

  7. Yes, it's a wonderful thing that the enlightenment and secularism has made it possible to speak truth to christianity in a way that would be impossible in an Islamic country. How the christians year for those bygone days when they could execute blasphemers, as the muslims do today! They turn the other cheek these days, but only because the law compels it.

    The best they can do these days is to accuse us of masturbation - an attempt at comeback as silly as a racist calling a genuinely cosmopolitan person a "nigger lover". The racist simply doesn't understand that that epithet is only insulting to racists like himself. We don't share your hangups about sex.

    As for Mary - she's mythical, just like Jesus.
