"Why don't white liberals vote for black politicians"

Ann Coulter has a great essay.

Excerpt:

... if it’s conservatives and “the white working class in the South” who are burning with racial hatred, why don’t white liberals ever vote for black representatives in their own congressional districts?
Black Democrats apparently can get elected to Congress only from majority black districts, whereas black Republicans are always elected from majority white districts: Gary Franks, J.C. Watts, Tim Scott, Allen West and (we hope!) Mia Love.
How come white liberals won’t vote for a black representative? Why can’t a black person represent Nita Lowey’s district?

Democrats do nothing for black Americans except mine them for votes, ginning them up with tall tales about racist Republicans.
Excellent point. Republicans elect black representatives from majority white districts.

Democrats never elect black representatives from majority white districts. Black Democrat representatives are only elected in black districts.

After two centuries of discrimination and segregation, white Liberal Democrats still can't bring themselves to elect black representatives.

    1. Why don't you point out the falsehood in the post.

      This ad-hominem stuff is pitiful.

    2. Technically speaking, the lying fool's posts don't even rise to the level of ad homimem.

Still, perhaps we should give this pathetic Dem apologist some credit for improvement in his attitudes -- for, after all, considering black Americans to be no more than a block of votes to be strip mined is still better than seeing them as no more that tree ornaments.

    3. Of course it's a lie. André Carson, a black Democrat, is a Representative for Indiana's 7th District, whose population is 63 % white.

    4. One dem, and four (hopefully five) republicans.

That's a "white district voting for black representative" ratio of 4:1 favoring repubs.

      Hmmmm....

    5. Do I hear the sound of the goal posts swooshing by? Why, yes, I do! We have established that the following statement is a lie:

"Democrats never elect black representatives from majority white districts. Black Democrat representatives are only elected in black districts."

Egnor erases this line in the sand and draws a new one:

"That's a "white district voting for black representative" ratio of 4:1 favoring repubs."

      And that's a lie, too.

Here is Emanuel Cleaver, the Representative for Missouri's 5th District, which is 69 % white.

Michael Egnor, you are an idiot if you read Ann Coulter. Doubly so if you believe what she writes.

    6. Oooo...

      My mistake.

So the ratio of black congressmen elected from white republican and white democrat districts is only 2:1, instead of 4:0 or 4:1.

      Mea culpa.

A side question: why are there only 2 black congressmen elected from white democrat districts, which is half the number of blacks elected from white republican districts?

Why are white democrats only half as likely to elect black congressmen as white republicans?

    7. Another line crossed! And still poor old Michael hasn't learned from his past mistakes. He draws yet another line in the sand!

"So the ratio of black congressmen elected from white republican and white democrat districts is only 2:1, instead of 4:0 or 4:1."

      Wrong again, Mike!

Keith Ellison represents Minnesota's 5th congressional district. It is 73.5 % white.

    8. Egnor, time to erase the old line and draw a new one! Mwahahaha!

    9. It's great to see this sequence of lie after lie with no admission by Egnor that he is mistaken.

Egnor has no personal integrity at all.

  2. So, now that is has been established, once again, that Egnor committed the sin of lying, when can we expect an apology?

  3. Why are white democrats only half as likely to elect black congressmen as white republicans?

Because despite all their moaning about affirmative action, the fastest way for a black man to move to the front of the line is to become a vocal conservative. Any halfway qualified conservative black candidate will receive all the support he could ever imagine from the national organizations. At the very least they will save him a seat in the TV camera’s field of view.

    1. Except that black republicans are exceptionally qualified, not "halfway".

If white republicans are such racists, why do they elect such highly qualified black representatives more commonly than democrats do?

    2. Michael,

Talk about moving the goalposts. You've had a great workout today. You won't need to exercise next week. You're already in positive exercise territory.

      His mouth is moving.

    4. I don't think he is a liar. Lying means saying one thing when knowing that the exact opposite is true. It seems that Egnor sincerely believes what he says.

In this particular instance, he took Ann Coulter's line (that black Democrats in Congress are only elected in black-majority districts) at face value. He never bothered to check it. If he did, he would find out that it is not true.

He conceded that in part, but not entirely, suggesting (based on nothing) that Republicans have a better record on this front than Democrats. They don't, in fact. I mentioned three members of Congress above, and there are more who represent districts that don't have a black majority. Barbara Lee (California' 9th), Gwen Moore (Wisconsin 4th), Mel Watts (North Carolina's 12th). That's already 50 percent more than black Republicans.

Egnor lives in a fantasy world. He desperately wants the world to conform to his newly found political and religious views. So he tries to reassure himself publicly on the web. Hilarity ensues. That makes him not a liar but a dork.

    5. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_majority_minority_United_States_congressional_districts#African-American_majority]

California 9- white plurality, combined minority majority

North Carolina 12- white plurality, combined minority majority

Wisconsin 4 is only barely majority white-- 54%

Even in Missouri 5 and Indiana 7, there are large black voting blocs (25% and 33 %)

      Oops.

So now, by my count, it's 4 black repub congressmen from white repub districts, 4 black dem congressmen from white dem districts, one of which is only 54% white and two of which have large black voting blocks (25% and 33%).

Ann was mistaken on specifics, but her general point still stands. The argument that republicans are racist is hard to square with the observation that white majority republican districts are at least as likely to elect black representatives as white majority democrats are.

Additionally, I note that the republican black congressmen were elected from overwhelmingly white republican districts, while 3 of the 4 democrat black congressmen were elected from democrat districts with a large black voting block, and it's quite possible that many or even most white dems voted against the black candidate.

    6. No, Ann wasn't "mistaken on specifics," she was dead wrong. I will remind you what she wrote (and what you parroted uncritically):

"Black Democrats apparently can get elected to Congress only from majority black districts."

I gave you 6 black Democrats who were elected to Congress from districts without a black majority. (There are more.) That's 50 percent more than Republicans could do. The real picture is the polar opposite of what she wrote.

This is hardly surprising. Coulter isn't known for accuracy of her statements. She is a shrill hack unhinged from reality.

    7. The question is:

Why are "enlightened" white majority dem districts no more likely to elect black representatives than "racist" white majority repub districts?

In fact, given the much larger number of blacks available to dems for elected office, it seems like white majority dem districts are positively avoiding electing blacks.

Just like old times. It's kind'a like old fashioned dem segregation, only now it's electoral.

      Delete
    8. No, that isn't the question, or at least it wasn't. Here are the questions Ann asked:

"Why don’t white liberals ever vote for black representatives in their own congressional districts? How come white liberals won’t vote for a black representative?"

      And your own statements:

"Democrats never elect black representatives from majority white districts. Black Democrat representatives are only elected in black districts."

All of that is a bunch of crap. Black Democrats are elected to the House from districts in which blacks are not a majority. In fact, more black Democrats were elected that way than black Republicans. Period.

Ann is unquestionably wrong on this, and so are you. Move the goal posts all you want. It's hilarious to watch.

    9. Rephrased:

Why are democrat voting patterns so... segregated?

      Delete
    10. I wouldn't go in this direction if I were you, Egnor, for you will fall into your own trap. Out of 241 Republicans in the House of Representatives, only 4 are black. And you complain that Democratic votes are segregated?

Whatever it is, I am not going to chase you on these rabbit trails. It was enough for me to demonstrate that your opening post, parroting Ann Coulter's lines, was hilariously out of whack. Not only do black Democrats get elected in districts without a black majority, more black Democrats got elected this way then black Republicans.

My advice is to ditch Ann Coulter. She has long gone off the deep end. Conservatives with remnants of a brain won't touch her with a ten-foot pole. You set yourself for automatic ridicule whenever you bring her up as an authority on politics.

  5. Didnt a colonel Wilkerson (republican) recently announce:
"Let me just be candid," he said. "My party is full of racists. And the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin. And that's despicable."
