Fifty Five Million Americans-- R.I.P.

Today is the 41st anniversary of Roe vrs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that declared that an entire class of human beings-- children in the womb-- could legally be killed at whim.

Roe is the Supreme Court's most horrendous decision, eclipsing even Dred Scott, Plessy v Ferguson, and Buck v. Bell. Abortion is our nation's greatest crime-- on a moral par with slavery and eugenics and segregation and on an enormously greater numerical scale.

For every three people you meet today, there is one person you won't meet whose life was snuffed by abortion.

We must never stop fighting to protect innocent life. May God have mercy on our nation.

  1. Innocent babies are sacrificed to a new "god of convenience". We humans deserve 1000km asteroid smash.

Pick a generous size. Earth is pretty resilient.

  2. One explanation of the evil of abortion was that when this life is considered disposable...then why not this other life?

As the geriatrics in our National Health Service now know, that logic held true. The results are in. We know the cost.

It seems to me that abortion has proven to be the single most lethal element in the corrosion of Western society.
It performs the same function as Welfare, but on a spiritual level.

How sad to have been proven right about all this. In the UK at present there is 'shock' at the killing of unborn girls by Asian immigrants. The public realm (politicians, medical associations, commentators) maintain this pretense at 'shock' and claim these killings are 'especially barbaric' or the others word that you will know so well and hate 'unacceptable'.

Imagine the 'shock' they will know in the place beyond death that is awaiting them all.

Then again, no. Don't try to imagine.

    1. Ooh Hell, so scary, especially if you’re a simpleton that’s never considered how absolutely absurd it is. As above, it’s usually evoked with creepy anticipatory glee. You can almost imagine a “Bwa ha ha” at the end.

  3. Hey, what happened to the “We deserve to get hit by an asteroid” comment? It was a wonderful illustration of the moral confusion so often displayed by Christians. Was it too embarrassing?

    2. KW, what makes you think that Eugen is a Christian? He didn't identify himself as one. If you click on his profile, you'll see that he lives in Canada and seems to be a super-sciencey guy. I suppose that doesn't rule out being a Christian but I'd guess he's probably not the type of religious zealot who inhabits the dark corners of your brain.

But then again, no one is. The scary religious people you rage against simply don't exist.

    3. “KW, what makes you think that Eugen is a Christian?”

Because he thinks we deserve to get hit by a large asteroid because of abortion. You hear that sort of talk from Christians all the time. No need to do any sleuthing when you have such an obvious clue. He might be mocking, but I doubt it. That he seems to be a science guy is fairly obvious too.

  4. Most abortions are spontaneous and they happen naturally within the body. Most woman who have such an abortion never even know it because it happens in the first month. It's very, very common. So in fact the biggest abortionist, if in fact god is responsible for what goes on in your body, is, then, god.

    1. Most deaths are spontaneous and they happen naturally to the body. So in fact the biggest murderer is god or nature or whatever.

So if you Travis are ever accused of murder, proffer that defense in court: 'I killed him deliberately, but lots of people die naturally, so I didn't do anything wrong.'

    2. ...yeah. Why not lighten the mood by following this 'reasoning'...

      ....erm....how about?

'Most of your money gets spend. It gets used and spent anyway. All I did was to spend your money, money you would have one day spent yourself. Now if that makes me some kind of thief in your eyes well...'

      Huum?

A new era in the annals of criminal defense advocacy!

    4. Here's Travis's asinine point--if we can call it that--in a nutshell: people die naturally, so murdering them is the same thing. After all, God is the biggest murderer because everyone who dies from natural causes is really killed by him.

Yes, this is how stupid the debate gets who talking to rabid pro-abortionists.

  5. It makes me sick that leftists have never rested a moment in the last forty-one years, fighting tirelessly to keep abortion dangerous, legal, and plentiful.

If you really think that abortion is as bad as murdering an actual born child or adult human being, and you allow this to happen without serious physical resistance, then you are as bad as the Germans who knew the Jews were being mass murdered and did nothing about it.

The fact that almost nobody does resist violently to abortion is proof that the self-righteous anti-choice religious crowd place far less value on the life of a fetus than they pretend to do.

    1. I don't "allow this to happen" without resistance. My resistance is intellectual, and rather persistent. This blog, a number of posts on ENV, my faculty advisorship of my med school's Med Students for Live, frequent public debates with pro-choice folks (a recent one with the chair of ob-gyn, who is a friend), traveling speaking for the national Med Students for Life organization (I spoke at med schools in Portland and Yakima in November) and I'll be speaking at several northeastern med schools this spring, being a member of the Respect Life committee at my church, and speaking at the Long Island Right to Life organization last year. I'll be speaking on medical ethics (and philosophy of the mind) in Poland in May. I was visiting professor at the Univ of Alabama Birmingham several years ago and spoke on eugenics. And I pray.

The T4 program-- the Nazi extermination program for handicapped people-- was shut down by Catholic Bishop Von Galen of Munster Germany, who in 1941 railed against it in a series of sermons and pamphlets in his Cathedral, denouncing Hitler and the Nazis for killing innocents. He was unrelenting, and amazingly the Nazis didn't dare stop him, because Gobbels was afraid of inciting violent rebellion in his constituency if they touched him. Hitler actually cancelled the T4 program in response to Von Galen's strident criticism.

I oppose all physical violence, and believe in working within the law wherever possible. The most effective way to stop abortion and the destruction of innocent life is thoughtful persistent peaceful advocacy and prayer. I do what I can.

    2. So you give some talks that you re paid for. Great resistance.

Many of the most extreme Nazi's were Catholics. So what if some bishop was an opponent of them?

      I oppose all physical violence

No you don't. You were in favor of invading Iraq.

It's pretty clear, Egnor. Either you don't really give a shit about the fetuses and are getting paid to pretend to care, or you are a coward. Both, probably.

  7. Michael, thanks for your hard work on pro-life movement.

I'm Christian (Catholic) and also support science. Until I started reading this type of blog discussions I never knew that some people, like our atheist friends are trying to separate us from science. Why?

    1. Eugen,

Why do you think atheists are trying to separate you from science? Examples?

    2. Bachfiend

I had experience where some commenters would degrade religious blog participants or scientists who practice religion. That was on mostly atheist blogs when sometimes commenters try to better each other as if it’s a competition. One example is Sandwalk blog, that’s why I don’t go there anymore and one owned by Jerry Coyne, which I read occasionally. There were other smaller blogs I visited only once or twice so I don’t remember them. It didn’t happen on this blog (that I can remember).

I cannot think of good reason why someone cannot be a scientist or interested in science and also religious. We all (religious and non religious) are looking for truth but we can interpret scientific data differently. When scientists (Dawkins, Coyne, Moran, etc) start talking too much against religion - that becomes suspicious.

  8. AMEN.
Dred Scott was irrelevant in comparison.
Abortion is the killing of a human being.
The vast majority of those who support abortion do out of a sincere DISBELIEF the fetus is a human being.
The abortion contention is a intellectual one and not a moral one.

The roe decision was wrong because they said , in effect, the constitution denied the right of the people to decide a fetus was a human being.
Therefore the fetus was not a person and so a pregnant woman had a right to control her body by killing the fetus.
Roe was a false and absurd decision.
It said the founding Yankee and Southern Protestant peoples PUT into their constitution a denial of the people to decide if the fetus was a human being or not.
Therefore in this abscence the court decided it was not and will not be.
Pro-lifers could do a better job in debunking the roe decision.
Seems that way from Canada here.
