Could the media's deliberate effort to inflame racial hatred be any more obvious?

From The Hollywood Reporter:

NBC News is being excoriated in some circles – with competitor Fox News Channel leading the charge – for selectively editing audio of the 911 call placed byGeorge Zimmerman just before he killed Trayvon Martin.
The NBC segment in question featured anchor Ron Allen and ran on the Todayshow on Tuesday. On Thursday, Sean Hannity and guest Brent Bozell played the NBC version of the 911 call and compared it with the unedited version.

In the NBC segment, Zimmerman says: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”
The full version, though, unfolds like this:
Zimmerman: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”
911 operator: “Okay. And this guy, is he white black or Hispanic?”
Zimmerman: “He looks black.”

NBC intentionally edited the 911 exchange to make it look as though Zimmerman's motive was racial, at a time when there is a real risk of racial violence.

Beneath contempt.

  1. I wrote a blog piece a while back on Hegelian Dialectics. This fits the bill completely. The most ominous aspect of this kind of manipulation of the media is the end goal. The immediate consequences are freaky enough, but what on earth is end result supposed to be? Obviously it is not dialogue, integration, or some sort of equality.

  2. It should be obvious from the preponderance of the evidence that Zimmerman is lying. Just listen to the 911 tape of Martin yelling for help and pleading for his life right up to the moment of the gunshot. Does Zimmerman’s mug shot or the surveillance video show a man who recently had his nose broken and his head beat against the ground? No. It’s also telling how Zimmerman’s story, as told by his surrogates, changed after the release of the police station videos.

Zimmerman wasn’t part of any organized neighborhood watch. He was a lone vigilante with a gun and dreams of protecting the community from blacks who are up to no good. He’s a violent man who was arrested for “resisting an officer with violence” and has had a restraining order against his due to allegations of domestic violence.

The most troubling and illuminating aspect of this whole case is how conservatives have circled their wagons around this murderous vigilante. Racists everywhere can take comfort knowing they can kill an unarmed black child and have the complete support of the conservative media and their dito-heads.

  3. None of what you describe, if indeed it proves to be true, justifies the lynch mob mentality that is being nakedly inflamed by the media, KW.
If the man is guilty of the crimes he is accused of, then due process is required before he is convicted. Bounties, selling t-shirts, and howling for blood does not do ANYTHING to bring that lad back, but it can certainly serve to polarize the issue and put race relations back 20 years.
You may also want to consider a possible defence on the grounds that he could no longer be tried fairly due to the circus. How does that serve justice?
