Pope Francis' first encyclical

Lumen Fidei:

The Pope notes that the family, not the individual, is the fundamental unit of human society, the...

“... first setting in which faith enlightens the human city.”

“I think first and foremost of the stable union of man and woman in marriage. This union is born of their love, as a sign and presence of God’s own love, and of the acknowledgment and acceptance of the goodness of sexual differentiation, whereby spouses can become one flesh (cf. Gen 2:24) and are enabled to give birth to a new life, a manifestation of the Creator’s goodness, wisdom and loving plan.

“Grounded in this love, a man and a woman can promise each other mutual love in a gesture which engages their entire lives and mirrors many features of faith. Faith also helps us to grasp in all its depth and richness the begetting of children, as a sign of the love of the Creator who entrusts us with the mystery of a new person.”
Marriage is a sacrament. It is a reflection of God's interior life, His love, a gift to us. It is the eternal love between a man and a woman, open to new life.

Marriage is prior to man, prior to society, prior to government.

We need more of this truth.

I suppose we should now rejoice since evolutionary dead-ends can raise "families" like this:

The lesbian parents of an 11-year-old boy who is undergoing the process of becoming a girl last night defended the [hormone-blocking] decision, claiming it was better for a child to have a sex change when young.
    --- Daily Mail, Sep 2011

Of course, everyone knows that "sex-change" operations and hormone treatments do not change sex, any more than facelifts restore youth.

The truth is, gay "marriage" is a reproductive strategy for otherwise infertile same-sex couples:

[T]he evidence appears to support Cameron’s (2006) hypothesis regarding the intergenerational transfer of sexual orientation, from a number of different directions, using narrative data, ethnographic data, and data from over two dozen previous
studies on gay and lesbian parenting. Not only were these results statistically significant but the percentages and odds ratios indicated substantive or clinical significance.

    --- Schumm, J. Biosoc. Sci., 2010

What amazes me is that Progressives can be ardent evangelists of neo-Darwinism and radical materialism, and simultaneously evangelize a cultural practice that is clearly maladaptive vis-a-vis reproductive success.

  2. The Catholic Church has always favored breeding like bunnies. This Darwinian tactic to ensure the continuing survival of the Church acknowledges the importance of brainwashing children as a condition of a religion’s success.

In many cases the children of gay couples score better on measures of health and well being than children of straight couples. The single biggest down side for children with same sex parents is the discrimination they receive at the hands of religious bigots.

Encouraging bigotry against gays does nothing but hurt the future prospects of the Church. The irony is that on this issue, I’m on the side of a stronger my viable church, and you’re supporting the bigotry and intolerance that are bringing it down.

How am I "supporting bigotry and intolerance"? By citing peer-reviewed studies?

    2. Oh yeah. You're really fretting about the future of the church. You're so dishonest it takes my breath away. Troll.

You sound like Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer telling Republicans that they should pass (illegal) immigration "reform" for the good of the GOP. Because he's really worried about that. And stuff.

The Catholic Church can't stop being "anti-gay" because they aren't "anti-gay" now.
